Mid-South firefighters head out on week-long rescue mission after wildfires and flooding devastate New Mexico village
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Six Mid-South firefighters are headed to New Mexico, on a mission to help an area devastated by recent wildfires and flash flooding. The Town of Collierville said three of its firefighters joined three City of Millington firefighters on a mission to Ruidoso, New Mexico, a tourist area in the mountains in the southern part of the state.

On Monday, Fire crews focused on helping local officials and residents with sandbag operations and other flood mitigation efforts, according to a release from the Southwest Area Incident Management Team 5. Officials said in an update Tuesday morning that support crews filled 18,000 sandbags and assessed over 4,000 structures across the area impacted by the South Fork and Salt Fires.
