The FBI is offering $10,000 for information about the people responsible for the wildfires in New Mexico.

In a statement, the agency wrote, “The FBI is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for starting the fires near Ruidoso, New Mexico.” The agency added that it is helping state, federal, and tribal partners investigate the fires that started on June 17.

The fires are known as the South Fork and Salt Fires. The fires have burned over 24,000 acres and are partially contained. The reward is comparatively small based on the damage to the area and the cost of 1100 firefighters.

Climatecrisis247 believes this is the early stage of how law enforcement attempts to get information that is otherwise difficult to find. The causes of fires that burn tens of thousands of acres may not be easy to identify. Not all are caused by humans. Some are from utility lines and lightning strikes.
