Firefighters battled the Blue Fire over the weekend, which sparked south of Running Springs in the San Bernardino National Forest.

The vegetation fire was reported at about 2:03 p.m. Sunday southeast of Highway 330 and near City Creek Road and Aqueduct Trail, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Firefighters attacked the half-acre fire on the ground as aviation units dropped water from the air. Additional aircraft were also requested, according to Big Bear-based Chief Meteorologist Ben Brissey.

By 3:16 p.m., the fire was at about 2 to 3 acres, with moderate spread and a potential for 25 acres. An aviation unit began dropping fire retardant, authorities said.

Just before 4 p.m., the fire's forward progress had slowed at 5 acres, with 0% containment. Air tankers were also on hold while helicopters continued water drops, authorities reported.

An airlift was also enroute for one unidentified person who had suffered an unknown type of injury, Brissey reported.

At about 4:30 p.m., a San Bernardino County Sheriff's helicopter landed at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center after leaving the fire scene, according to Flightrader24.

After 5 p.m., Forest Road IN09 was closed at the entrance of Hwy. 330. There are no evacuations, fire officials said.

"The fire area consists of heavy fuels and the typography in the area is making access difficult," said San Bernardino County Fire Chief Salvador Reyes."

Unified command agencies working the Blue Fire include the San Bernardino County Fire Department., Cal Fire, the Running Springs Fire Department and the San Manuel Fire Department.

Meanwhile, light showers began falling east of the Blue Fire, near Big Bear Lake and Baldwin Lake, Brissey reported.

This story is developing and will be updated as more information becomes available.
