Twin Cities Motorcycle Crash Leads to 11th Death in Seven Days on Minnesota’s Roads
Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News)- A motorcyclist lost her life in a crash on a freeway in the Twin Cities early Friday morning. She’s become at least the eleventh person to die on Minnesota’s roads in the past week. A motorcyclist, identified as 20-year-old Cooper Russell Bertram of Elko also died in a construction zone I-35 Wednesday night in southern Scott County.

City of Houston Launches Initiative with Daikin to Equip Homes with Advanced AC and Heating Solutions
Daikin Comfort Technologies North America Inc. (Daikin) has announced a new collaboration with the City of Houston to install up to 30 high-efficiency, horizontal discharge, inverter Daikin FIT heat pumps units over the next three years. These units will be provided to low-to-moderate-income households, including many seniors over 62, in homes renovated through the Housing and Community Development Department’s Home Repair Program.

Lions plant tree in honor of late member
Lions Bob and Donna Andraschko were two very upbeat and diligent Lions. To honor this dynamic couple, the Winona Lions have planted a maple tree near Every Child’s Dream Playground. Their smiles and enthusiasm will be sorely missed by Lions in Southeastern Minnesota.
Kiwanis donate backpacks to Ready Set School
Kiwanis Sunrisers Club members of Winona filled 50 backpacks with school supplies at its membership meeting on August 14. This is the seventh straight year of this club project. All backpacks were given to the Ready Set School organization of Winona County represented at the meeting by Tori Todd and Pam Simon. The backpacks and supplies were purchased by the Sunrisers Club with a $250 donation from Thrivent Action Team. The backpacks will be given to elementary school students in need to provide them with the necessary supplies to begin the 2024-2025 school year. Ready Set School is a nonprofit organization located in Winona. The organization works to ensure that all eligible students have the basic and necessary supplies and clothing for school, public or private. Bob Hermann, chair of the Sunrisers Club children’s services committee, coordinated this project with the Ready Set School representatives.
