Wildcat Football Volunteers in Greenfield Aid
Although the football season is quickly approaching at West Central Valley, coach Jim Lindsay and his Wildcat football team took a day to help the Greenfield community. After a tornado caused damages to the city of Greenfield, many volunteer groups have stepped up to held clean up and restore the community. the Wildcat football team posted on their Facebook page, “we had a chance to do some community service this morning (Tuesday) helping out our neighbors in Greenfield. We uploaded and delivered shed parts and pieces that are going to people in need.”
Knoxville Volleyball Schedule Among The Toughest Around
For the last few seasons, Knoxville Volleyball has beefed up its schedule to get ready for the class 4A run in the postseason. The South Central Conference will also provide a challenge with a more balanced conference, but still Knoxville’s non-conference schedule, which includes several road meets, will test the Panthers. Meets like the Des Moines Christian Invitational, which added Pella this season, Waukee Invitational, which Knoxville will see several class 5A schools, and the Panthers own invitational at the end of the season has state powers Union, Ballard, Holy Trinity and Roland-Story just to name a few. Coach Mollie Keitges tells KNIA/KRLS Sports the Panthers’ schedule is no joke.
Twin Cedars Volleyball Opens August 27th
The Twin Cedars Volleyball program will be under new leadership this season as Shelby Miller will take over the program when Randi Gist stepped down after last year. The Sabers schedule has not changed much from 2023. The Sabers will start off with a scrimmage against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on August 24th followed three days later by their first regular season match at East Union. The Sabers do not have many home matches which occur at the end of the season in October. One of those will be against arch-rival Melcher-Dallas on October 3rd. Iconic Union Pacific’s Big Boy Steam Engine To Stop In Carroll Sept. 4

Union Pacific’s beloved Big Boy No. 4014 steam engine is scheduled to make a whistle-stop in Carroll near the beginning of September on its “Heartland of America” tour. The enormous 132-foot, 1.2-million-pound engine operated from 1941 to 1961. Union Pacific began restoring Big Boy in 2013 and returned it to service for tours in 2019 as part of the 150th anniversary of the transcontinental railroad’s construction. The Heartland of America Tour begins Aug. 28 in Cheyenne, Wyo. and includes a path east to Illinois before turning south to the Gulf of Mexico and returning to Wyoming via Oklahoma, Kansas, and Colorado. Big Boy’s whistle-stop at the Carroll Depot is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 4. The engine is expected to roll in from the west around 12:30 p.m. and depart toward Boone at 1 p.m. Safety during the tour is a high priority for Union Pacific, and they remind spectators to remain at least 25 feet back from railroad tracks at all times. West Burlington, IA- The West Burlington Police Department has announced the arrest of a Burlington man for 2nd Degree Theft. According to a news release, at about 8:34 PM Monday, August 12th, West Burlington Police Officers responded to WW Transport, 701 E Mt Pleasant Street, in Burlington for a report of a stolen motor vehicle.
