DiNapoli Audit Critical of Falconer Central School District's Budgeting Practices
A state audit has found that the Falconer Central School District did not properly manage its fund balance and reserves from July 2020 through April 2024. New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says the audit found that Falconer School Board and district officials failed to implement corrective action despite audits from 2009 and 2016 that identified similar deficiencies. According to DiNapoli, district officials' budgeting practices resulted in the district levying more real property taxes than needed, a significant accumulation of surplus fund balance in excess of the statutory limit and missed opportunities to lower real property taxes.
