PG&E announces possible public safety power shutoffs for several California counties
About 12,000 PG&E customers were told on Sunday to anticipate possibly losing power on Tuesday as the utility monitors weather conditions that could force an intentional shutoff for safety reasons. PG&E also activated its emergency operations center in anticipation of a Red Flag warning issued by the National Weather Service for Monday night through Tuesday night for the Sacramento Valley and foothills. Heatwave to Leave Several Customers in North Bay Without Power (But Not Sonoma County)
The incoming heatwave could cause a lot of stress to the grid. The potential Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) event is anticipated to begin early Tuesday morning and could last through Wednesday. It affects approximately 12,000 customers, including two tribal governments, in targeted parts of eight counties. In the North Bay, it would be 49 customers in Lake County and 9 in Napa, so 58 total. 96 customers in Solano County may also lose power.

The US National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for a majority of the Bay Area from morning on Tuesday, July 2, through evening on Saturday, July 6. The hottest temperatures are forecasted Tuesday and Wednesday with Santa Rosa expected to peak at 105 degrees. The NWS considers this a Moderate to Extreme heat risk event in our area. Based on the forecasted conditions, the City of Santa Rosa will open a cooling center at the Finley Community Center located at 2060 W. College Ave. on Tuesday, July 2, and Wednesday, July 3, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
