5 Walgreens Locations in Maine on National Closing List
The largest pharmacy chain in America is headed for some tough times. Walgreens announced last week that they would be spending the rest of 2024 "resetting" their business strategy in hopes of being more profitable in the next few years. According to CNN, part of that resetting includes closing more than 100 underperforming locations in 2024, with more likely to follow in 2025.

We enjoyed our walk with master naturalist Marie Camillo Reimensnyder from Royal River Conservation Trust examining the many types of ferns on the Talking Brook Public Land. We also were surprised by a muskrat swimming in the pool at the top of Big Falls. It was having fun in the water and running over the rocks.

Topsham Fairgrounds fills with people and horses for barrel racing
TOPSHAM, Maine — While many are spending their holiday weekend setting off fireworks and hosting barbecues, some had other ideas and went barrel racing in Topsham. The Maine National Barrel Horse Association hosted a competition at the Topsham Fairgrounds, filling the venue with horses and competitors of all ages.
One dead, two minors injured following crash in Gray
GRAY (WGME) -- One person has died after crashing head-on into another driver who was allegedly driving under the influence in Gray. On Saturday, at around 11:26 p.m., the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office says they responded to the area of Portland Road and Sugar Maple Road for multiple reports of a head-on motor vehicle crash.
New Gloucester Rides- Call for volunteers
BLING is pleased to announce the launch of New Gloucester Rides, a volunteer transportation program serving New Gloucester residents, developed with Lifelong Maine and AARP guidance and tools, and modeled on successful programs in other Maine towns, including Age-Friendly Saco and Central Maine’s Neighbors Driving Neighbors. Transportation is a vital need in rural Maine for older people and for people with disabilities. Those who do not drive, or who give up their driver’s license as they age, whose family members live in distant states, whose health care providers are miles away, face a profound lack of transportation. Volunteers vetted and trained by New Gloucester Rides will provide rides to medical and dental appointments.

Maxwell's closing strawberry farm in Cape Elizabeth after 51 years
CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine — Popular pick-your-own strawberry spot Maxwell's Farm in Cape Elizabeth says it has decided to close after more than five decades in operation. Maxwell's Farm posted on social media Sunday announcing 2024 will be the strawberry farm's final season after 51 years, citing "no single reason" for its closure, but a "myriad of realities" that had built over time.

Registration open for week of community free blueberry picking at Beech Hill
ROCKPORT — “The ‘Blues’ will be ready early again this year,” said Coastal Mountains Land Trust, in a news release. CMLT invites everyone to pick berries at Beech Hill Preserve. As CMLT did last year, instead of selling blueberries, it will offer a week of community free picks, from Sunday, July 21 through Saturday, July 27, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., each day. An evening pick will be held on Thursday, July 25, from 5 - 7 p.m.
