(FOX40.COM) — Days after the Sacramento Fire Department revealed it had undercover officials working to secretly capture video and cite people for setting off illegal fireworks , another Northern California law enforcement agency said it also had a trick up its sleeve to catch violators.

“We are combing through the reports to the Nail Em app , many of which contain time-and location-stamped photos and videos of violators,” the Woodland Police Department said on social media. “We also have video footage of violators that were taken by our drone team in response to firework complaints. These individuals will soon be receiving their citations in the mail or by personal delivery.”

The warnings about penalties for possessing or using illegal fireworks before or during the holiday didn’t stop everyone from using them. WPD said between the Fourth of July and July 5 it issued at least 34 citations totaling over $110,000 in fines for violators, an over 600% increase in citations from the same time last year.

Even still, police said they are taunted by people who make comments like “they are still going off and nothing has happened yet,” and “good luck collecting those fines.” In response, WPD said enforcement is “far from over” and shared a message for people who think they got away with illegal fireworks shows.

“For those that we didn’t have the pleasure of meeting in person on the 4th in action, you’ve got mail on the way,” WPD said. “The bottom line is, we heard the overwhelming majority of our community loud and clear, they do not want to hear see illegal fireworks.”
