A man was arrested this week on suspicion of homicide after a person was killed in a south Sacramento shooting last month, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies were called to assist firefighters at 4:30 a.m. June 17 near I Parkway and Forest Parkway for a man who had suffered a gunshot wound. The man was pronounced dead and later identified as 31-year-old Sherman Gage, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Sheriff’s detectives and investigators interviewed witnesses and collected evidence as part of their investigation into Gage’s death.

“From their investigation, Homicide Detectives identified 23-year-old Denisho Collins as a suspect in the homicide,” the news release stated .

The suspect was in possession of a loaded gun when he was arrested, the Sheriff’s Office said. Collins was booked Tuesday into the Sacramento County Main Jail. Jail logs online show he is ineligible for bail. Collins is scheduled to appear in Sacramento Superior Court next Thursday, sheriff’s deputies said.

The investigation into Gage’s murder is ongoing. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office called on anyone with information to contact them at 916-874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-HELP (4357).
