Some Jefferson County restaurants used unique methods to store meat and poultry last month. One establishment used a trash bag. Another used a grocery bag. And a third -- which scored the lowest of any Jefferson County restaurant inspected in July -- kept raw chicken directly on top of hamburger patties.
12-year-old boy injured in west Birmingham when father’s argument with another man leads to gunfire
A 12-year-old boy was injured when he was caught in crossfire at a west Birmingham home. The shooting happened just before 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The boy is expected to recover. Officer Truman Fitzgerald said West Precinct officers were dispatched to the 4900 block of Avenue Q in the Central Park neighborhood on a report of a person shot.

GFPB scores $1.5M grant
Go Forward Pine Bluff was awarded $1.5 million from a partnership program between the Delta Regional Authority (DRA) and the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA). With funds provided through the EDA's Economic Adjustment Assistance program, the DRA has invested more than $4.3 million toward three projects located in Arkansas, Alabama and Mississippi.
JT Thor scores seven points in loss to Team USA
After nearly upsetting the Stars & Stripes in an exhibition game a few weeks ago, the South Sudan Bright Stars had another chance to make history on Wednesday in the Olympic rematch. Unfortunately for former Auburn Tiger JT Thor and his teammates Wednesday’s 103-86 loss was never very close. Despite receiving the fourth most minutes out of all South Sudan players in the exhibition, Thor played just 15 minutes on Wednesday.
