Former Alabama walk-on cornerback dies in North Carolina days after car accident
Former Alabama walk-on cornerback Terrance Howard, who was part of the Tide's 2023 team, died Thursday from injuries sustained in a car accident last month. Howard played high school football in Missouri City, Texas and spent last season as a freshman walk-on at Alabama. He entered the transfer portal in April and committed in May to transfer to North Carolina Central University.

A Vestavia Hills resident and two Berry High School graduates were inducted Saturday into the Alabama Sports Officials Foundation Hall of Fame. Steve Newton of Vestavia Hills and Berry grads Mike Murphy and Kathy Odom White were among 10 people who were inducted during a 6 p.m. dinner ceremony at the Oxford Civic Center.

Voting advocates in South Central Alabama are ramping up organizing efforts ahead of the November 5 general election — the first for the newly redrawn District 2. Last month, nearly 40 participants gathered at the G.W. Carver Interpretive Museum in Dothan, Alabama, for a weekend of intense Community Action Training. Participants studied successful best practices for campaigns in the fight for fair pay, strikes for safety standards and — most applicable to the voting district — equitable voting access.

Theatre Tuscaloosa’s performance of “Anything Goes” opened on Thursday and will continue through Aug 4 in partnership with Shelton State Community College. With a title like “Anything Goes,” most audience members might not know what they are getting themselves into. Set in the 1930s, the musical takes place on a boat where celebrities and famous thieves cross paths in a love story. The main characters of this musical are Reno Sweeney, a nightclub singer; Billy Crocker, a businessman who is in love with Hope; Hope Harcourt, a beautiful heiress; Moonface Martin, a gangster who befriends Billy; and Erma, a playful gangster who is friends with Moonface.
Multiple crews quickly extinguish yacht fires at Turtle Point
KILLEN, Ala. (WAFF) - Multiple crews responded to Turtle Point Marina following a boat fire on Sunday morning. According to Killen Fire and Rescue, two yachts were destroyed and other boats were damaged. The department said they were dispatched around 7 a.m. to Turtle Point Country Club Marina for a 65-foot yacht on fire inside the marina. Two 60-foot yachts were found on fire and moving toward other vessels.
