7/15: Our monthly Senior Citizens luncheon which is usually held at the Town’s Conference room near the Library prepared by Parma Jewett was. changed. Stacey Manosh and her mother, Sally Barrows, had invited everyone to go to Bernie’s Restaurant at lunchtime and order what they wanted from the menu. Thirty-one people attended and enjoyed a very hearty meal with dessert. It is with all our thankful hearts from each of us for your kindness and it was all greatly appreciated. In attendance was Brent Godin who was recently back from visiting Alaska. He has been there before and visiting with Sandy Bowman who was recently in Alaska with her daughter Jill.

History of the Keeseville Volunteer Fire Department
Edwin Venette says he conjectures the KVFD was either the first or second volunteer department in New York and possibly the country. — KEESEVILLE | On July 17 some 50 persons, many of whom were relatives or descendants of Keeseville firemen or emergency medical service personnel, attended a presentation on the history of the Keeseville Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) at its headquarters. The primary presenter is himself sort of historic. He was Edwin Venette, a 50-year member and former chief of the KVFD. Today he is a member of the Board of Fire Commissioners for the Ausable-Chesterfield-Keeseville Joint Fire District. It covers 150 square miles and is headquartered at 8 Pleasant St., Keeseville. The presentation was presented in conjunction with volunteers from the Anderson Falls Heritage Society in Keeseville.

I recently read Dan Alexander's piece entitled "Separation not Cancellation". There have been many previous court rulings in regards to legal interpretation of the "Separation of Church and State". Some rulings favored preserving "American Heritage" and have stated that despite the religious nature of displays, they were more historical in value and, therefore, did not violate the standard. Other rulings have swung in the other direction, citing that the overriding nature of the religious imagery and display was enough to cross the line and was therefore unacceptable.
