Hunter Cole Smithson
Hunter Cole Smithson, a 28 year old loving father, spouse, brother, son, and friend, unexpectedly left this world while doing what he loved in Normandy, TN on July 7, 2024. Hunter was born in Murfreesboro, TN to his parents- John Randolph Smithson and Penny Denise Johnson Shelton. Hunter found the most joy in a deer stand, with a turkey call, casting a line at Normandy Lake, hunting morel mushrooms, searching for arrowheads, dancing to funk music, or cooking a delicious meal. Above all else, Hunter loved his precious baby girls- Louella and Layla, Fiancé- Sarah Reed, and baby boy- Beau Hunter. He loved immensely, wrote poems and letters with the most delicate tone, and always danced as if no one was looking. Hunter completed the Smithson Trio- a bond with his sisters, Hillari and Holli, that could never be shaken. His smile brought joy to all, and his presence felt like home.

Developer withdraws plans for Circle K on Winchester Highway
The developer who proposed building a Circle K store on the Winchester Highway and was requesting a zoning change has withdrawn his plans. During last week’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen work session, Kristi Gentry, planning and codes director, told the board the developer had taken his plans off the table.
Katherine Marie Vaughn Obituary
Katherine Marie Vaughn of Tullahoma passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024 at Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital at the age of 86. Mrs. Vaughn was born in Warren County to the late William Martin and Stella Sparkman Smith. During her life she was a member of College Street Baptist Church, and retired from Wal-Mart after 27 ½ years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Vaughn was preceded in death by her husband, Millard “Tony” Vaughn; one daughter, JoAnn Painter; brothers, Wayne, James, and Buddy Smith; sisters, Grace Reedy, Inia Cruise, Pauline Tatum, Billie Kyzer, and Ruth Dodson; and one great-grandson, Nolan.

The Duck and the Tullahoma News are combining to host a candidate forum on Wednesday, July 10, the event to include candidates for Tullahoma city mayor and aldermen. The forum will be held on July 10 at Tullahoma High School at 6 p.m. and will be moderated by popular radio personality Lucky Knott. Early voting for August election begins Friday
Early voting for the Tennessee State and Federal Primary and County General Elections begins this Friday, July 12, and will run until Saturday, July 27. For Tullahoma residents, the C.D. Stamps Community Center at 810 South Jackson St is the place to go early vote, while the Coffee County Administrative Plaza at 1329 McArthur St, Suite 6 is the place to go for Manchester residents. For C.D. Stamps the hours for voting are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Saturday is from 9 a.m. to noon. For the Plaza hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Evelyn Sanders Cooper, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Monday, June 24, 2024 at Life Care Center at the age of 100. Mrs. Cooper was born in Nashville to the late Albert Harrison Sanders and Catherine Heins Sanders. During her life she worked as the bookkeeper for Builder’s Supply and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her husband, George Henry Cooper, Jr.; and three brothers, Albert, Alfred, and Robert Sanders. She is survived by her three children, Tom (Karen) Cooper, Paul (Missy) Cooper, and Kathy (Rick) Millen; five grandchildren, Emily, Ashley, Chris, Ryan, and Royce; and six great-grandchildren, Callahan, Claire, Everett, Ryder, Cooper, and Lucas.

Danny Wayne Clark
Danny Wayne Clark, age 63 of Decherd, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. A native of Franklin County, he was born in Winchester on August 21, 1960. Upon completion of his degree at the Institute of Electronic Technology in Paducah, Kentucky, he moved to Rochester, New York to begin his career and start a family. He returned to his beloved Franklin County in 2006. Before his retirement, Danny was employed as a project manager for Global Crossing in telecommunications, where he was instrumental in the transitioning from analog and switchboard operations to digital calling across the world. A “High-Tech Redneck,” he could do anything he put his mind to from electronics, building, and mechanics. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding horses and motorcycles, as well as working on his small farm and doing carpentry projects. His acts of kindness and ability to entertain with his countless stories and antics, as well as his charismatic personality will be remembered by his family and friends. Danny was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Roland A. Clark. Danny is survived by his mother, Dimple Clark; daughter, Shelby Clark (fiancé, Austin Cupp); siblings, Bobby (Jan) Clark, Eddie (Pat) Clark, Thomas (Deena) Clark, Rebecca Clark Kirby, and Kenneth Clark; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 11am-1pm on Friday, July 12, 2024, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Couple in murder-suicide identified by District Attorney
District Attorney Courtney Lynch has identified the two people killed in a shooting incident at NHC Healthcare Sequatchie on Monday morning, June 8. Marcie Bubul, 81, was reportedly shot by her husband, Kirk Bubul, also 81, after he entered the facility. Kirk Bubul then shot himself, said Dunlap Police Chief Randy Phillips.
