Wade receives scholarship award
The University of Tennessee at Martin held its annual Honors Day Ceremony on April 14 to recognize students who excel as scholars and leaders. Samantha Wade, of Tullahoma, received the Ernest and Wilma Newby Scholarship Award. This award is given to two students majoring in history, criminal justice or political science who have, if possible, some military connection. Recipients are selected by the History faculty.
Employee ownership is the cornerstone at Great Lakes Cheese
Each year Great Lakes Cheese, awards an employee-owner at each of their nine locations with the Stewardship Award. The award recognizes employee-owners who best personify the ownership mentality that is a cornerstone of the Great Lakes Cheese culture. “It’s someone who has a deep understanding that our success comes not from individual accomplishment of their own, but from the working together of the team,” said Robin Walton, Great Lakes Human Resources Manager, Manchester.
Tullahoma Youth Tennis Camp
The Tullahoma High School tennis teams will be holding a youth camp starting on July 22, going through July 25. They will be holding two camps; the “Lil Ballers Tennis Camp” for boys and girls in first through fourth grade and the “Future Wildcat Camp” for boys and girls from fifth to eight grade. The first camp will be from 1–2:30 p.m. and the second from 2:30–4 p.m. If the camp is affected by rain, July 26 is saved as a rain day to make it up.
Barbara Field Hinkle
Barbara Field Hinkle passed away at the age of 100, on June 27, 2024 at Autumn Oaks Assisted Living in Manchester, TN where she had lived for the past year. Barbara was born on March 21, 1924 in White Plains, NY to William Clifford and Mildred Field. She grew up in Mahopac Falls, NY. After high school and secretarial school, she worked as a secretary for several years. In 1944, Barbara entered service in the U.S. Navy WAVES. In December 1945, she was honorably discharged from the navy and married Clinton Purdy. Three daughters were born to this marriage: Beverly, Kathy, and Lynne. In 1961, Barbara and her daughters moved to Black Mountain, NC to be near her parents who had moved there several years earlier. In 1969, she married William H. Hinkle. Added to the family was Bill’s daughter Phoebe Chloe. In 1992, Barbara and Bill moved to Cullowhee, NC. She continued to live there after Bill’s death in 2009 until 2015 when she moved to Tennessee to be closer to her daughter Lynne.
Decherd Alderman and Wife Arrested Facing Drug Charges and Possible Murder Charges
At the request of 12th Judicial District Attorney General Courtney Lynch. The 12th Judicial Drug Task Force began investigating the overdose deaths of William Horton and Miles Kincaid, which occurred in Franklin County on April 21, 2022. The current DTF investigation began after investigators with the Decherd Police Department uncovered new evidence in the case. Based on the investigation, DTF agents have charged Justin and Paige Stubblefield with one count of conspiracy to distribute oxycodone, a Schedule II controlled substance. Justin Stubblefield, who is an Alderman for the City of Decherd, was also charged with one count of money laundering based on the financial transactions that occurred during the distribution of the oxycodone.

At the Manchester City Board of Mayor and Alderman meeting on July 2, 2024, agenda item 9 B was listed as a resolution approving a contract with Insituform Technologies, LLC, in the amount of $351,521.50 for Sewer Interceptor Cleaning and Internal Inspection, Project 102-203 sponsored by Vice Mayor Mark Messick.

EDA wants in on housing money for Front St. project
The Tracy EDA last Wednesday recommended the approval of a task order with Bollig Engineering, signaling another step in the Front St. housing development project. The task order is not to exceed $16,000 and includes a field survey ($4,000), finalized concept plan ($3,000), preliminary and final platting ($7,000) and cost estimate ($2,000).
