Monteagle’s top dog brings home more awards
Maverick, a 3-year-old Boykin Spaniel owned by Jackie DeAngelo, just took top honors at the prestigious International Dog Show in Nashville. Four international judges awarded Maverick four first-place medals as well as three best-in-show ribbons and one reserved ribbon—his combined awards enabled him to take the show’s highest honor: the Grand Sieger Winner. Maverick recently received an Award of Merit at the Westminster Dog Show in New York.

Dorothy Jean Shelton
Dorothy Jean Shelton, age 77 of Belvidere, passed away on June 30, 2024, at her residence. She was born in Lincoln County on August 26, 1946, to the late Lannie Tripp Baker and Madge Tripp. Dorothy retired at Lanier but had also previously worked at Wilson Sporting Goods and in the cafeteria at Franklin County High School. She even sewed baseballs together on the side. When she was not working, she enjoyed riding horses, sitting on the porch, sewing and crocheting, and being with her family. Dorothy always looked forward to driving to see her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She was a strong-willed, determined, loving lady that was always devoted to her family. She was a member of the Owl Hollow Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by her siblings, Charles Baker, Barbara Sisk; and grandson, Joshua Hill. She is survived by her husband since 1962, Charles Shelton; son, Wayne (Carla) Shelton; daughter, Gina Brazelton; grandchildren, Bethany Hill, Emily Griffin, Megan Hill, Casey Shelton, Zach Shelton; several great-grandchildren, Audrey Shelton, Myla Richardson; siblings, James Walker (Debbie Winton), Debbie Walker (Sylvia Walker), Brenda Ramsey (Jim Ramsey); and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, from 5pm-8pm. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 11am at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Lois Cemetery. More on Manchester Capstar Bank Robbery Arrests
As first reported by On Target News on June 26 two men are facing charges. The following is a press release on June 28 from the Manchester Police Department. On November 22nd, 2023, Capstar Bank, located at 1814 Hillsboro Boulevard in Manchester, TN, was robbed by an unidentified male. The suspect entered the bank and instructed the employees to fill bags with money. After the suspect obtained the money, a witness observed a male get in to a vehicle and exit the area. Manchester Police Department began the investigation by collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses and victims. Because of the amazing local support, Manchester Police Department was able to locate an identical vehicle entering the city just prior to the robbery. This led Manchester Police Investigators to a business in Murfreesboro. After reviewing and collecting CCTV evidence, a male suspect was identified as Stephen Hampton (25).

The State of Tennessee has announced that Tims Ford Lake will become a Bill Dance Signature Lake. The enhancements under the Bill Dance Signature Lake project include continued management and stocking of bass, walleye, and crappie, annual habitat improvements for enhanced family fishing opportunities, improved fishing docks, and a new 5-lane boat ramp.
Two Arrests after Pellet Gun Shootings in Tullahoma
Tullahoma Police Department has charged two suspects in connection with numerous reports we have received regarding unknown subjects shooting at citizens with air pellet guns and vandalizing property. It has come to our attention that this may have also occurred in surrounding jurisdictions, as well but may have gone unreported.

NORMAN HAROLD MOON
NORMAN HAROLD MOON, age 81, of Tullahoma, Tenn., departed this life suddenly on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at NHC Tullahoma following a brief illness. Mr. Moon was born in Coalmont, Tenn., to the late Robert Walter Moon, Jr. and Ollie Ella McWain Moon on June 26, 1943. He was employed most of his life in the residential construction and painting profession. Mr. Moon was a member of the First Church of Jesus Christ in Tullahoma. He served his Church as a Deacon for over 50 years, he also served for many years as the Church Secretary. His favorite hobby was woodworking. He would do anything for anyone that needed help. He loved playing pranks on his friends and family. He will be remembered as a devout Christian man that loved his Lord, his family and his Church family.

City budget passes $37 million budget in final reading
The Fiscal Year 2025 City Budget passed in a third and final reading at the Board of Mayor and Aldermen’s second June meeting, totaling to $37,227,852. Alderman Daniel Berry made an amendment to add back in the non-profit and tourism funding that he had previously motioned for to be put into contingency since he said the board had to cancel study sessions regarding the two issues. Alderman Derick Mann seconded his motion and the motion passed unanimously.
Melba Freeze Henley
Melba Freeze Henley, age 74, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024, after a short battle of cancer. She was a graduate of Morrison High School. She was an active member of Way of the Cross Baptist Church in Winchester. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed gardening and canning. A beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who loved to dance and collect jewelry. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ashley and Jannie Freeze of the Shady Grove Community. She is survived by her husband, William C. Henley, who was the love of her life over the last eight years, and his family. Daughter, Melody Bell (Chris); son, John Douglas Freeman; son, Jimmy Webb. Granddaughter, Kelsey Smith; triplet grandsons, Harrison, Ethan, and Dalton Bell. Granddaughter, Aubrey Webb. Two great-granddaughters, Blakely and Taytum Smith. She was a great friend to many and will be dearly missed. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to breast cancer awareness.
