City budget passes $37 million budget in final reading
The Fiscal Year 2025 City Budget passed in a third and final reading at the Board of Mayor and Aldermen’s second June meeting, totaling to $37,227,852. Alderman Daniel Berry made an amendment to add back in the non-profit and tourism funding that he had previously motioned for to be put into contingency since he said the board had to cancel study sessions regarding the two issues. Alderman Derick Mann seconded his motion and the motion passed unanimously.
Melba Freeze Henley
Melba Freeze Henley, age 74, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024, after a short battle of cancer. She was a graduate of Morrison High School. She was an active member of Way of the Cross Baptist Church in Winchester. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed gardening and canning. A beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who loved to dance and collect jewelry. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ashley and Jannie Freeze of the Shady Grove Community. She is survived by her husband, William C. Henley, who was the love of her life over the last eight years, and his family. Daughter, Melody Bell (Chris); son, John Douglas Freeman; son, Jimmy Webb. Granddaughter, Kelsey Smith; triplet grandsons, Harrison, Ethan, and Dalton Bell. Granddaughter, Aubrey Webb. Two great-granddaughters, Blakely and Taytum Smith. She was a great friend to many and will be dearly missed. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to breast cancer awareness. Jason Scott Hogan, 44, of Tullahoma passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. Jason was born in Franklin County on Nov. 10, 1979 to Alvie James Hogan and Carol Elaine Thompson. Johnny Boyd Champion Obituary
Johnny Boyd Champion, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at his home at the age of 85. Mr. Champion was born in Winchester to the late Charlie and Argie Fears Champion. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and went on to work in Shipping and Receiving at the Eaton Corporation, retiring after 30 years. Mr. Champion was of the Baptist faith and was called to preach the gospel in 1972. He was ordained as a pastor on Sept. 21, 1975 and served 45 years in the ministry before retiring in 2017 at the age of 78 due to health issues. In addition to his parents, Mr. Champion was preceded in death by one son, Jeffery Champion; and his siblings, Howard Champion, Nina Payne, Geneva Gipson, Mary Garland, Parker Champion, and Rudy Champion. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elsie Hill Champion; two daughters, Lisa (Eddy) Seals, and Lea Ann (Patrick) Phillips; daughter-in-law, LaDanna Champion; eight grandchildren, Corey (Courtney) Damron, Amanda (Alex) Lefever, Jeremiah (Keela) Seals, Jeffery Champion, Joel (Katie) Champion, Amber (Matthew) Gluch, Peyton (Jenna) Phillips, and Jay (Mika) Phillips; and 13 great-grandchildren, Cobie Damron, Caysen Damron, Hayley Seals, Hendrix Champion, Aubry Champion, Kimber Champion, Piper Champion, Tinsley Champion, Grayson Gluch, Brinley Gluch, Sawyer Phillips, Beckett Phillips, and Baylor Phillips.

Stevie Keith age 68, of Morrison passed away at his residence Tuesday, June 25, 2024. He was born January 16, 1956, to his parents the late Claude and Carnell Taylor Keith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Carl, Phillip, Vernon, and Bobby; sister, Brenda. Mr. Keith served in United States Army and was a Truck Driver. He is survived by brother, Paul Keith of Troy, Tn; daughter, Stephanie; son Little John; companion, Carolyn Milvae. The family has honored Mr. Keith’s request to be cremated and no services are planned at this time. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Keith family.
Worker injured after making contact with power lines
WINCHESTER, Tenn. (WSMV) - A contract worker working on power lines in Winchester was injured after receiving an electric shock on Thursday morning, Winchester Police said. The worker for Service Electric Company, a contract company doing work for Winchester Utility System, was working on power lines at the intersection of Bible Crossing Road and Old Estill Springs Road at 11:37 a.m. when he was shocked.

Dr. Mike Hill of Elora just returned from Europe where he attended the commemorative services marking the 80th anniversary of World War II’s D-Day campaign. Hill’s late father, James “Ed” Hill (1924-2016), was part of the second wave of soldiers who came ashore at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France, on the morning of June 6, 1944, as part of the 116th Infantry, 29th Division, H Company.

The Tullahoma Little League 11u All Stars fell to Winchester in the district semifinal, while the 12u All Stars dropped the championship game to Columbia. The 11u team made up by Grady Sturgill, Liam Tipps, Preston Silvertooth, Sean Marsh, Harrison Grow, Maddux McCallon, Briggs Legeune, Andrew Garland, Jordan Bunn, Kaynan Maupin, Waylon Crawford and Gabe Davis won the first game of the weekend 19-7. Marsh, Bunn, Sturgill, Davis and Garland each had two hits in the game. Bunn had a double and a triple. Marsh also had a double and Grow had a triple. Local man killed in interstate cycle crash
A Coffee County man was killed in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 24 near Exit 111 this past week. According to the accident report filed by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the victim Jason S. Hogan, 44, of Tullahoma was traveling east on his 2002 Suzuki GSXR 1000 motorcycle when lost control and overturned around 1:13 a.m. Tuesday.

Decherd police seize fentanyl and meth during traffic stop; two arrested
DECHERD, Tenn. (WZTV) — More than 165 fentanyl pills were seized during a Middle Tennessee traffic stop last week, police say. An officer in Decherd conducted the stop on Thursday during a fentanyl trafficking investigation. Police say the officer saw drug paraphernalia "in plain sight" while speaking to the occupants in the vehicle. More drug paraphernalia was found in the pants pocket of the driver.
