Just before 8:00 a.m. on July 6, 2024, Idaho State Police (ISP) troopers responded to a report of a two-vehicle injury crash. A 2005 GMC pickup, driven by a juvenile, was eastbound on US26 near milepost 348, south of Ririe. A 2023 Macdon hay swather, driven by a juvenile, was westbound on US26 at milepost 348, south of Ririe.

Spoiling a near perfect day with a crash
It was turning out to be a nearly perfect day. Not too much wind, good temperatures, and light traffic. Nearly perfect … until it wasn’t. Then it sucked. Last Saturday our group of six was riding bikes on country roads north of St. Anthony on our way to Harriman State Park via the Mesa Falls Scenic Byway. Our goal was to do a total of about 100 miles there and back.

HAMER — Hamer’s fireworks celebration exploded in a twenty-second blaze of glory after a computer malfunction caused a plethora of shells to fire all at once. “We had one great, big grand finale right there at the beginning,” Hamer Fire Chief Scott Jacobs told EastIdahoNews.com. “One of the shells didn’t go off, and it started a chain reaction and lit probably a couple dozen of the tubes off all at the same time. Then they kind of just went everywhere.”

Charles Leonard Day, 79, of Menan, Idaho passed away Friday, July 5, 2024 at the Idaho Falls Community Hospital in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Charles was born March 29, 1945 in Greeley, Colorado, the son of Clifford Barton Day and Dortha Toots Christensen Day. He attended schools at Kinghorn Elementary, Menan Elementary, Midway Jr High, and graduated from Rigby High School. He served his country in the Idaho National Guard from April 1968 through September 1969 during the Vietnam War and retired from the National Guard in 1990.

Dalton Jade Abegglen, age 26, of Saint Anthony, died at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center due to heart complications on July 3, 2024. Dalton was born August 5, 1997, in Rexburg, Idaho to Jade and Brandy Abegglen. He graduated from Sugar Salem High School in 2015. While in high school Dalton enjoyed playing football.
