Labor Day Weekend Fest planned for City of Lewisport
The Lewisport City Council met on Thursday evening, July 18th. At last month’s meeting, it was approved for there to be a Labor Day Weekend Fest in downtown Lewisport on Saturday, August 31st. There will be fireworks, a tractor pull and a car show, since those were rained out for the 2024 Annual Lewisport Heritage Festival held in June.

Dora Jane (Fawcett) Bardwell, 88, passed away peacefully at her Huntingburg home on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 7:44 p.m. Her sons, Brett and Cam, were at her side. Dora was born September 6, 1935, in Shoals. She attended Shoals Community Schools and graduated a proud Jug Rock in 1953. After High School, she went to work at Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center. While at Crane she met a young sailor by the name of Jimmie Gerald Bardwell. The two married and, after brief stints in Washington, Petersburg and Dale, they settled in Huntingburg. Dora gave up her career at Crane to raise their two boys.

Petersburg Rehabber finds new purpose with The Talon Trust
Saving an owl from an abandoned fishing line is all in a day’s work for local raptor rescue and rehabber Jill Keepes. It all started when The Talon Trust came to the local Pike County Library for an educational program. “I attended because I had read they were bringing an American Kestrel and being a nature/bird photographer, I knew I had to see one up close!” said Keepes. “After attending the program, I approached the volunteers on how I could get involved with this wonderful group. The Wildcats moved from Class 4A down to Class 3A for 2024 and gone are the days of falling shy against the likes of Evansville Reitz, Castle and Evansville North in the tournament — and in is a brand-new sectional also featuring Southridge, Gibson Southern, Princeton, Vincennes Lincoln and Washington.
