Independence Day fireworks display in Chicago suburb cut short
An Independence Day fireworks display in a Chicago suburb ended early Wednesday night due to an unspecified malfunction, authorities said. In a statement, the Wheaton Park District said the operator of its Independence Day fireworks display at Graf Park experienced a malfunction with one of its fireworks. As a result, the remainder of the show was cancelled, officials said.

Statement Regarding This Evening's Fireworks Show
During this evening’s Wheaton Park District Independence Day fireworks display at Graf Park, the show’s fireworks display operator experienced a malfunction with one of the show’s fireworks. As a result, the remainder of the show was terminated. The Wheaton Fire Department was on site during the event, and there were no injuries resulting from the firework malfunction. As a precaution, the remainder of the show was suspended and the park was cleared for the evening. City of Wheaton safety personnel were on site and responded according to the safety plans in place in partnership with the Wheaton Park District.
Aurora City Agrees to Plant a Cell Tower in Lebanon Park
With a 9-2 vote of approval, the Aurora City Council aldermen agreed to allow AT&T (NYSE: T) to go ahead with a proposed 125-foot monopole. A conditional use permit was needed because current allowances would have limited the height to 100 feet. The Illinois city needs the cell tower, noted AT&T spokesperson Andrew Flowers, because the area suffers from spotty service and dropped calls. As the Beacon-News reports, the new tower will replace an existing tower located near the Lebanon Park baseball field.
