Union duo facing Illinois gun charges
Two Union residents have been extradited to Illinois to face charges of possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a defaced firearm and unlawful use of weapons. Katie Burbank, 19, and Dayton Davis, 18, were arrested July 1 on fugitive warrants out of Madison County, Illinois.
Laberer wins revote for Union Ward 2 alderman seat
Barbara Laberer will return to the Union Board of Aldermen after winning a special runoff election on Tuesday, July 9. In the unofficial results for the Ward 2 seat, Laberer received 85 votes, 62.5 percent, while fellow former Alderman Bill Isgriggs received 51 votes, 37.5 percent. Voter turnout was 7.66 percent.

Hall County judge orders competency hearing for suspect in rest stop killing
GRAND ISLAND — A Hall County judge ordered a competency evaluation Tuesday for the 22-year-old man accused of killing a man at an Interstate 80 rest area. Jeff Loeffler, the attorney for James D. Thompson Jr., said he has concerns about the mental competency of his client, and asked Hall County Judge Arthur Wetzel to order an evaluation.

A Crawford County man faces multiple charges for fighting with a deputy while being arrested in connection with a vehicle theft.
