Valley Park Woman Drowns in Big River
St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A Valley Park woman died Sunday afternoon, after drowning in Big River. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident happened upstream from St. Francois State Park at around 2:15 p.m. on Sudnay, July 21. 40-year-old Melissa Hill reportedly entered the water to help another individual. Hill became unconscious and was found floating face down in the water. Bystanders pulled Hill from the river and began life-saving measures.

Three Union people injured in Route 100 crash
A woman and two minors from Union were injured after a Labadie woman crashed into the right side of their vehicle on Route 100, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The patrol reports that Dawn Holman, 43, of Labadie was driving northbound on Route 100 near Route V around 5:30 p.m. Saturday in a 2003 Chevrolet Venture. Holman failed to yield to Paula Frank, 61, and two female juveniles, ages 7 and 10, of Union traveling westbound in a 2021 Honda Odyssey. The Venture struck the right side of the Odyssey totalling both vehicles.

Arnold man takes first place in 'My Best Ride' photo contest
Earl Stephens of Arnold won the $100 top prize in the My Best Ride photo contest for his photo of a 1923 Ford T-bucket he bought in memory of his late father. UNION, MO, (July 20, 2024) - A 62-year-old Union woman was seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday in Franklin County. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Paula Frank was driving a Honda Odyssey on westbound Route 100 at about 5:30 p.m. when a Chevrolet Venture driven by a 43-year-old Labadie woman failed to yield and hit the ride side of the Honda near Route V.

Union sales tax receipts dip
After two strong months of year-over-year sales tax collections, the City of Union saw a slight decline in May, the most recent month figures were available. The city collected $233,830 in May 2024, down 2.3 percent from the $238,734 raised in May 2023. While down, the May 2024 figure was still the second highest for May since at least 2014.
