Artist makes her mark on downtown Union
The city of Union is getting a makeover, one mural at a time, thanks to Eileen Wade and her friend Donna Huellinghoff. So far this year, the two seniors have painted at least five murals in the downtown area, including a giant colorful mural adjacent to the new Hansen Park across from the Franklin County Courthouse. That mural recently won Best in Show in MU Extension’s People’s Choice Awards. Wade has turned a lifetime love of art into a public art project of sorts, leaving her mark on numerous Union businesses and public buildings. And she isn’t finished, at least not if she has her way about it. From the first mural she painted downtown, she has been inundated with requests to do more outdoor art, and so far, she has been willing and eager to do it, because, she says, “I love bringing smiles to people’s faces. To see somebody love what I do for them. That art, you know? And to do it with other people, like to teach kids how to do it, is a lot of fun.”
