Pioneer Planting at Lincoln Heritage Public Library
The Dale branch of Lincoln Heritage Public Library held a special storytime event July 8 to showcase some of the chores that would have been expected of a young Abe Lincoln. Interns Jaeger Loran and Ethan Bravo of the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial paid a visit in costume, with several pioneer instruments to help set the stage. Those interested in learning more about pioneer life are welcome to visit LBNM’s living historical farm this week, where interns will be hosting activities for all ages between the hours of 10 a.m. to noon.

Patricia Gail Russelburg, 71, 0f Hawesville, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at her home under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born in Breckinridge County on October 8, 1952 to the late Jasper and Bernice Brown Dewitt. Gail was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a retired security guard. She enjoyed yard sales, “junking” and horses. Gail was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Rachele Ress and son-in-law, James G. McCrary.

We are still starting the day very muggy and we keep a few rain chances in play. 2024 MLB Draft: Arizona Diamondbacks select Jasper grad, Indiana RHP Connor Foley
Another former prep baseball standout from Southwestern Indiana has been taken in the annual MLB Draft. Indiana University right-handed pitcher and Jasper High School graduate Connor Foley was chosen Monday afternoon by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fifth round with the 164th overall pick. The selection has a slot value of $392,300.
Parade of Homes features 15 houses in July; one in Tell City
The 66th annual Parade of Homes begins July 20 featuring 15 newly built homes by 11 homebuilders. The event will start this weekend on July 20-21 and continue the following weekend, July 27-28. Houses will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays.

Dorothy Strobel
DALE — Dorothy A. Strobel, 85, of Dale, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024. She was born Jan. 21, 1939, in New Boston to Hubert and Elsie (Friedel) Brinksneader; and married James A Strobel on June 24, 1961, at St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in New Boston. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi/St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dale. Together, Dorothy and James traveled to 48 different states. She enjoyed bird watching, especially cardinals, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James A Strobel, who passed away on May 24, 2014; and brother, Ronald Brinksneader.
