George A. Allard, 72
George Allen Allard was born September 17, 1951, to Donald and Ruth (Overman) Allard in Valentine. He was the third sibling with two brothers and two sisters. He attended grade school in Crookston, and graduated from Valentine High School in 1969. He worked for the Texaco gas station and for his family at their bar in Crookston during high school.
Tour De Nebraska
The Tour De Nebraska bike event will be in the KVSH area this week. The tour of over 400 bike riders will arrive Tuesday in Springview. They will tour the Bassett and Ainsworth areas before ending the week and spending 2 days in the Valentine area. According to organizer Charles Schilling, they try to cover about 50 miles per day and some participants have set a goal to hit 100 in one day. There are options for more routes during their stay in Valentine.
Two Vehicle Accident Saturday Afternoon
Local emergency crews were called out about 5:30 Saturday afternoon yo a two vehicle accident at the corner of 5th and Green Streets, near Valentine High School. It appeared that one vehcile may have run the stop sign on 5th street and collided with a smaller SUV. The sedan ended up in the front yard on the Northwest corner of 5th and Green Streets.
Tooth and Whisker team wins Chamber Golf
17 teams competed in the annual Valentine Chamber of Commerce golf tournament on Saturday at Fredrick Peak Golf Club. First place in the championship flight was the Tooth and Whisker Team with at score of 57. Second place was the Stoeger team with a 60, also with a 60 was the Top Notch Construction team. Stoegers won on the tie breaker criteria.
Local Student Selected for the State of Nebraska’s 2025 Environmental Calendar
Austin Diebler of Valentine had her artwork selected to be featured in the State of Nebraska’s 2025 Environmental Calendar titled “Nebraska: Don’t Waste It!” This was a contest sponsored by the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy. Nearly 850 entries were submitted and she was selected along with 12 other students.
Parmelee Woman Arrested Saturday In Pierre On Assault And Other Charges
PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Parmelee woman is facing charges in Hughes County following a reported assault in Pierre. Pierre Police Captain Dusty Pelle says officers were called Saturday night around 7:40 pm to the 800 block of South Washington Street for a reported assault. Investigating officers determined 31 year-old Rhea Farmer had punched a male subject in the face and had also swung a knife near the man in an attempt to cut him. Pelle says the investigation also indicated Farmer threw an object at the man, hitting him in the face. He did not say what the object was that hit the man in the face. The investigation also found Farmer to be high on marijuana at the time. As officers attempted to take Farmer into custody she began to resist the officer’s efforts. Farmer was eventually taken into custody and transported to the Hughes County Jail on charges including Aggravated Assault-Domestic Violence; Ingesting a Substance to Become Intoxicated, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Resisting Arrest.

Leslie Riewe Takes Over State Farm Office in Valentine
Leslie Riewe is the new agent for State Farm Insurance in Valentine. After 2 years of testing and training, Leslie took over the local office on May 1st. Longtime agent Dave Major retired at about that time. Leslie has 3 staff members assisting in operation of the business on Hall Street in Valentine. Leslie plans to continue service to the area with all types of insurance and financial services including investments. They also have a satellite office in Mullen. Tooth and Whisker Outdoors Grand Opening
Tooth and Whisker Outdoors held their Grand Opening and ribbon cutting on Saturday June 15th at their new location at 311 West Highway 20 in Valentine. Tyler and Andrea Brown purchased the Wright’s Bait Shop in 2023 and moved just a couple lots east of that location into a new building. During the open house, patrons were encouraged to register for prizes, which were drawn for at the end of the day. Harold Osgood won the Busch Light fishing chair, Suzanne Schultz won the Sun Heat heater and Mike Young walked away with the Garmin fish finder.
Woman from Parmelee arrested after Saturday night incident in Pierre
On June 15, 2024, at approximately 7:40pm, Pierre Police Patrol responded to the 800 block of S. Washington for the report of an assault. The investigation showed that 31-year-old Rhea Farmer of Parmelee had assaulted a male subject by punching him in the face, swinging a knife at him in an attempt to cut him, and throwing an object and hitting him in the face. It was also determined the Farmer was intoxicated and had been using marijuana. When Officers attempted to detain Farmer she began to pull away and began resisting, but was ultimately taken into custody and transported to the Hughes County Jail.

Independence Day Parade to Be Held July 4
Start putting your parade floats and entries together. The annual Independence Day Parade will be held in Valentine beginning at 10am on July 4th starting at 1st and Main, traveling North to 5th Street then east to Green Street and the High School Parking lot where the annual bell ringing will be held shortly after. Liberty’s Fireworks will again sponsor the parade with Chamber Bucks prizes for top entries. Entry forms are available at KVSH Raido. Stay tuned to KVSH Radio for any updates.
