Valentine Family Aquatic Center Hosts Swimming Lessons for Area Youth
Swimming lessons are underway at the Valentine Family Aquatic Center for 2024. According to representatives at the pool, there are no forms to fill out. Parents are encouraged to stop by the pool during their regular hours of operation, or to call 376-8019 to get their kids signed up for upcoming swimming lesson sessions. The current class will run 11am to noon on June 24-28. The next is July 8-12 and then another class July 15-19 at the pool. These dates will cover classes for all levels of swimmers and the fee is $30 per student.

Flag Day Trivia
The annual Flag Day Trivia program was held on Radio KVSH Friday morning. 20 Flags worth $327 were awarded to folks who called in with questions and answers. The two finest flags were of polyester, with stitched stars and stripes. Connie Rhodes won a fifty-star flag for singing America the Beautiful and Judy Reece won the Betsy Ross Flag for singing Grand Old Flag. In all, twenty flags were given to celebrate Flag Day. This program is sponsored by Post, Unit and Squadron 90 of the American Legion Family.
Minnechaduza Bridge Project Scheduling Update
The contractor has exercised their option to construct the Minnechaduza Bridge project beginning this fall, with project completion in the spring of 2025. A road closure shall occur, on Highway 12, between Labor Day (2024) and Memorial Day (2025). During this time period, the contractor will remove the existing bridge and replace it. The road closure and bridge construction shall occur during September 3, 2024 – May 23, 2024. A detour from about 7 miles East of Valentine on Highway 12, west to Highway 83 will be in effect during that time. Local traffic will be allowed, but there will not be traffic over the Minnechaduza creek.

High above the Snake River canyon floor, CapRock Ranch makes the biggest splash in Golfweek's revised Best 200 Modern Courses in the U.S. The private club southwest of Valentine checked in at No. 15, the highest debut for a new course. The online display photo is of CapRock’s No. 17.
Merritt Reservoir North Project Update
The latest update on the Merritt Reservoir North project on Highway 97 Southwest of Valentine. Asphalt placement is complete. Werner Construction has mobilized off the project. HWY 97 around Merritt Reservoir is now a smoother, wider roadway. Driveways have been replaced and are operational. Expect the grading operation to continue...
“On The Ridge” Film Positive
ROSEBUD – Rosebud Sioux Tribal programs collaborated to distribute fishing poles, bait and healthy snacks at an activity aimed at families with children at Ghost Hawk Lake. The fishing equipment was assembled by Rosebud Sioux Tribe (RST) Game, Fish & Parks employees. The fishing poles were distributed by volunteers stationed at Ghost Hawk Park. Over three hundred individuals registered for the event. Participants got to keep the poles.

Regina E. (Roggasch) Brockley was born November 19, 1937, at home on the family ranch in Rose, to Arthur and Mary (Dunne) Roggasch. Gina was the third of five children. Gina joined her husband, Ross, in heaven Monday, June 3, 2024, at Bickford Cottage in Lincoln with her family at her side.
City Council Conducts Regular Meeting
The City of Valentine held a regular council meeting at the library on Thursday evening. During the meeting the council heard a request by the Cherry County Ag Society to discuss the potential for an interceptor sewer line as well as electricity needs at the fairgrounds. City Manager Shane Seiwart stated that he put in a request with the engineering firm for more information Friday morning. There was also an application made to the Rural Community Recovery Program for a grant to complete the park road/city park trail. Seiwart stated that this is a long shot with the total money available totaling about $10 million and six or seven hundred applicants for these grants.
Heart City Freedom Fest
The Valentine Methodist Church is bringing back the Christian Rock Band Seventh Day Slumber on June 22nd at the Valentine City Park. Along with Seventh Day Slumber, Christian Solo artists Joseph O’brien and Magdalene Rose will perform. Tickets will be ten dollars per person for all three performers, kids 10 and under get in free. Food and drink options available for purchase at the city park. Organizers are also taking sponsorship’s to help offset the cost of bringing these christian entertainers to the community.
