    St. Helens Public Library extends as cooling shelter through Tuesday

    With continued heat in the forecast, the Columbia Center in the St. Helens Public Library is extending cooling center options through Tuesday, July 9.

    The center at 375 S. 18th St. will be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 2-8 p.m. Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

    Limited bottled water will be available, and a drinking fountain and restrooms will be available. Only service animals are allowed inside the building; other pets will be allowed on a leash or in a carrier on the covered porch outside.

    The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for Columbia County through 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 9.

    Additional locations to stay cool:

    St. Helens Senior Center (375 S. 15th St.): open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Monday and Tuesday. Open to all ages. Pets on leaches or in carrier allowed inside. Water and restrooms available.

    St. Helens Alano Club (215 N. Sixth St.): Open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Tuesday. Open to all ages. No pets allowed inside.

    Oregon Trail Lanes (735 S. Columbia River Highway): Open 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday; and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.
