Harlan Wendlandt, 88, Obituary – 6/25/2024
Harlan Wendlandt, 88, of Gaylord, MN, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Woodstone Senior Living in New Ulm, MN. A funeral service took place Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop, MN, with interment at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Gaylord. Military honors were by the Manthey-Asmus American Legion Post 433.
Impact of flooding during Fourth of July week
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - It’s Fourth of July week and multiple cities are already planning for the recent flooding to make an impact. The city of Mankato on Friday announced the Red Hot & Boom Fireworks show will relocate from Riverfront Park to Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Athletic Fields.
City of Windom Flood Update, July 1
Update from the City of Windom Mayor Dominic Jones. The Des Moines River at Windom is measuring currently at 22.87’ and is forecasted to continue decreasing steadily. There is a slight chance of severe weather expected tonight and the Emergency Operations Center will continue to monitor the situation overnight. With saturated soils and potential strong winds, there is a risk of tree damage and uprooting.
Volunteers organized to help clean-up efforts
There are clean-up efforts underway throughout the community. Community members have stepped up throughout the last week helping their friends, family, and neighbors with flooding preparation and now clean-up. We extend our gratitude to volunteers who have been aiding the community. The City of Windom will continue to coordinate requested resources with volunteer groups and organizations as available.

Flood Relief Funds Opened at Southwest Initiative Foundation
To address needs resulting from severe flooding in southwest Minnesota, Southwest Initiative Foundation (SWIF) has established the Windom Flood Relief Fund in partnership with its community affiliate, the Windom Area Foundation, and the Southwest Minnesota Flood Relief Fund. These emergency funds will help those affected by the high water with financial assistance related to long-term recovery in Windom and the surrounding area and the foundation’s southwest Minnesota region.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at St John’s Lutheran Church in Morgan with burial to follow in the St John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Morgan. Visitation will be held one hour prior to his service, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. also at the church.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at St John’s Lutheran Church in Morgan with burial to follow in the St John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Morgan. Visitation will be held one hour prior to his service, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. also at the church. Arrangements are with Nelson-Hillestad Funeral and Cremation Service of Redwood Falls and Morgan.
Martins defeat Redbirds in league game
FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Martins defeated the Luverne Redbirds 6-5 in Sunday night’s league baseball game at Herb Wolf Field. With a strong start from the Martins’ offense they took an early lead to start off the game going up 2-0 in the first inning. When the Martins’ defense took the field they held strong shutting down the Redbirds and keeping them off the scoreboard.

OWATONNA — Leon Leland Kamrath, 84, of Owatonna, Minn., died Friday, June 28, 2024, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont, Minn. Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Michaelson Funeral Home, with Pastor Amanda Floy officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Steele Center Cemetery, Somerset Township.
Club reflects on recent flooding
Over the past two weeks the City of Lakes, due to heavy and relentless rain, has faced rising water levels. As a result water has moved into the streets, covered docks and even swept boats from their lifts. Now after the storm, Fairmont citizens expectantly wait for warm weather to clear the overflowing waters. While water levels gradually return to normal, businesses and homeowners assess any damages from the floods.
