Minnesota HC to merge bank charters
Sanborn, Minn.-based Red Rock Bank will merge into its sister charter MidCountry Bank, Minneapolis, later this year. Both community banks are owned and operated by Minneapolis-based holding company MidCountry Acquisition Corp. After the deal is finalized in October, branches of the $47 million Red Rock Bank in Springfield, Minn., and Sanborn will operate as MidCountry Bank, increasing the number of MidCountry Bank offices to 16.

It’s important as we get older to keep our minds sharp as well as our bodies. Everyone should have a desire to keep their cognitive skills intact as they go into their golden years. The next CREST Lunch & Learn will take place 11 a.m. Monday, July 8, at the CREST office, 820 Winnebago Ave. in Fairmont. The program will be presented by Joyce Peterson of CREST and she will speak on the topic “How To Build A Better Brain.” A salad luncheon will be served after the presentation along with a cool summer dessert. If you would like to attend this event, please RSVP the CREST office at (507) 235-3833. This activity is open to seniors in Martin County and a free-will donation is always welcome.

Sherburn hears of park improvements
SHERBURN — Sherburn City Council held a meeting Monday evening and a city employee reported that they replaced the steps on the playground equipment at the park. He asked about the gazebo at the south park since the windows are getting broken often. The council discussed selling the gazebo and will discuss putting it on the excess city equipment list at the next city council meeting. The place where the water main was broken has been patched and will get attention again. He reported that the waste water treatment new plant was working well and that it was not overwhelmed by the record breaking water in June. The plant handled over 2 million gallons of water which is much more than usual and did not have to use a bypass.

Courtland man arrested for illegal possesion of firearm, meth
A Courtland man with prior felony drug convictions is accused of illegally possessing a .22 caliber pistol, ammunition and methamphetamine. Dale Geral Waibel, 55, of Courtland was charged with nine felony counts in relation to illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition with prior convictions and four felony counts for possession of methamphetamine, a controlled stimulant and opioids. RIVERS FALLING, COTTONWOOD STREET IN NEW ULM OPENS
River levels in the area continue to fall but river flood warnings continue. The Cottonwood River at New Ulm measured 13.2 feet as of 10 Saturday morning. It is expected to fall below flood stage of 11 feet Tuesday morning. The falling river has enabled crews to open Cottonwood Street which has been closed for several days due to water running over the bridge. The Cottonwood River above Springfield measured at 25.3 feet as of 9:30 Saturday morning. The river is expected to fall below flood stage early Wednesday. Flood stage is 22 feet. The Minnesota River at New Ulm measured 801.3 feet as of 9:45 Saturday. Flood stage is 800 feet and the river is forecast to fall below that Monday evening. River flood warnings continue for the Minnesota River at Morton, Mankato, Henderson, Jordan and Montevideo as well as the Redwood River at Redwood Falls.
Windom Flood Relief Fund has been established
Due to recent flooding in Windom, Windom Area Foundation has created the “Windom Flood Relief Fund” to help support the community.
