Power outage near south Windom hits snag
Citizen Online just received word from City Administrator Steve Nasby that south Windom will be without power longer than expected, “at least three more hours.”. The power was shut off early this evening as crews worked to hook up a temporary power generator for the south Windom area — to be used in the event the city were to lose power on a unit near the swimming pool area (which feeds the south Windom area). The generator, which was brought in on a flatbed semi truck in response to the flood emergency, is not owned by the city of Windom and local workers are unfamiliar with this specific equipment.

Debris removal drop-off site is set up
A free drop-off site for flood-damaged debris from homes has been set up in the west parking lot at Windom Area High School. At an emergency meeting Tuesday, Cottonwood County Commissioners agreed to set up a free drop-off site at the high school for Windom residents to drop off damaged carpet, sheetrock or electronics and appliances.
More than 36,500 sandbags filled in Windom
The Des Moines River in Windom was expected to reach its highest water level, roughly 25.2 feet, on Wednesday morning before slowly receding. In a special City of Windom meeting Tuesday night, it was also noted that sandbagging operations had ceased after filling 36,500 bags. Residents are asked to keep sandbags in place for several days in case of weather or river changes.
Fairmont EDA Meeting Changed
The Fairmont Economic Development Authority usually meets on the second Monday of each month, however, this month the meeting will be moved to Monday, July 15th. FEDA will meet that day at 4:30 p.m. at the Fairmont City Hall second floor conference room. MPCA invests $500,000 to help small communities prepare for extreme weather and climate change
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency today announced a $500,000 investment to help eight communities in Greater Minnesota better understand how to prepare their infrastructure for extreme weather caused by climate change. The grants, which range from $27.000 to $156,000, will support cities’ plans to improve and upgrade stormwater and drainage systems and prevent flooding.
