Springfield Tigers win Class A baseball title
Minneapolis, Minn. (KEYC) - The Springfield Tigers won the Class A Minnesota state high school championship over Parkers Prairie 5-1 on Friday morning at Target Field. The Tigers allowed a run in the first inning before answering back with one of their own in the bottom of the frame. Springfield would score two in the third inning going up for good and on the way to their second title in school history.

Springfield 5, Parkers Prairie 1 (Class A Baseball Championship Game)
The Panthers closed out the 2024 spring Season Friday June 21st at Target Field as the Class A Runner Up to the Springfield Tigers with a final score of 5-1. After making the trip Monday, then getting postponed to Friday, the forecast didn't look that promising, but a break in the weather allowed for a championship rematch from 2016 at Target Field.

Madelia residents may obtain sandbags from Total Lawn & Landscape, located at 660 Haynes Ave NE. Enter on the first entrance that states employee entrance. There will be cones that will direct you to the correct bunker to fill the sand bags. It will be the homeowner’s responsibility to fill their own sand bags.
A brief break in the rain has arrived
I fear we may have a few extra lakes out there from Cook to New Ulm and Sioux Falls. One to two months' worth of rain since Wednesday has soaked the Arrowhead and much of southern Minnesota. I saw Doppler rainfall estimates of 8-10″ from Windom to St. James, Madelia and Mankato on Friday.
Springfield Defeats Parkers Prairie 5-1 to Claim Class A State Baseball Championship
A 3-run third inning broke a 1-1 tie and carried Springfield to a 5-1 victory over Parkers Prairie in the Class A State Championship Baseball game on Friday at Target Field in downtown Minneapolis. Springfield collected 9 hits in the game and Jakob Nachreiner recorded 11 strikeouts and scattered 4 hits to earn the win on the mound. Nachreiner also went 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring a pair of runs.

TRIMONT — A memorial visitation for Lorraine A. Carlson, age 89, of Trimont, Minn., will be held 4-7 p.m. Friday, June 28, at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont. Carlson passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the Heartland Senior Living Center in Truman, Minn. Kramer Family Funeral Homes in Welcome, Sherburn and Trimont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Discussion on electrical updates at Keck Park continue
WELCOME — The Welcome City Council met Tuesday evening, June 18. Zac Gerhardt presented a request about two electrical lines at Hansen-Keck Park. He had been asked previously to bring quotes and a better idea of the cost of the lines. He presented a quote for $1,613 for two lines, each would be 100 feet, with two meters and 50 amp each for a permanent upgrade to electrical service at the park. Food trucks for the festival weekend use generators now since there is electrical ready for one truck and there are usually more. He said the festival has grown from $5,000 to $25,000 for their budget. Federated Rural Electric Association (FREA) cannot help like other years. Puzzle Race today at Lake Belt Bar and Grill
CEYLON — The Lake Belt Bar and Grill will have their High Stakes Puzzle Race at 1:30 p.m. today, June 22. Good luck teams. A fundraiser event for Healing Hearts Housing will be held 4-8 p.m. today, June 22, in the Martin County Arena at the fairgrounds in Fairmont. There will be a concert by Heart Song, a hog roast barbecue, and activities for the children as well.

The Martin Luther High School Board of Directors will host a Celebrating Our Freedom benefit dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, June 23, at the high school in Northrop. They will serve grilled pork loin (by Martin County Pork Producers), cheesy hashbrowns, baked beans, coleslaw, bread, bars and beverage. This is a free will offering. Proceeds will help sustain the school’s ministry over the summer months and assist with moving expenses for the new principal. Donations over and above $20 are tax-deductible. There will also be a meet-and-greet pantry shower for Principal David Stuckwisch and his family. Everyone is invited.
