FAIRMONT — A time for remembering and celebrating the life of Rhonda L. Shelton, 64, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 3-5 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minn. Rhonda passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Cattle escape from overturned semi
OTTERVILLE --- Authorities wrangled cattle that escaped from an overturned semi on Monday morning. Driver Joseph Wenner of Comfrey, Minn., was heading south on Otterville Road in a Peterbilt semi when the vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a bridge railing around 8:40 a.m., according to the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office.

SHERBURN — The Sherburn City Council met Monday evening. Amanda Strommer from the MN Department of Health/Well Head Protection department discussed the two new Sherburn wells with the council and the old well. She said Sherburn was about halfway through the well head protection and that there are grants to help. One would be $10,000 and another would be that amount with a 50/50 match from the City.

Board hears fairground success, woes
FAIRMONT– The Martin County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday heard some updates and a request for funds from Robbin Celander, President of the Martin County Fair Board. Celander said that last year’s fair was “fantastic,” and since then, along with planning for this year’s fair, members have been busy with other events held at the fairgrounds, including the Minnesota Youth Livestock Expo (MYLE) which took place in late June.

Park concerns go to board
FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Park Board met on Tuesday and revisited some old business including the topic of air conditioning in the Lincoln Park Shelter house. Board Member Vicki Schulte brought up the possibility of redoing the shelter house and questioned its purpose. Public Works Director Matthew York responded by explaining that clubs and groups meet there commonly for meals and meetings. Park and Street Superintendent Nick Lardy added to York’s statement about Lincoln Park. The park committee had removed the isometric flower beds and replaced such with kinder and raised beds.
Winnebago Council addresses repair issue
There was some good news and there was some bad news for the Winnebago City Council to deal with at their regular meeting on Tuesday evening, July 9. While the council was excited to approve the hiring of Cass Davis, who is already a certified EMT (Emergency Medical Technician), to the Winnebago Ambulance Department, they were also disappointed to learn that the Muir Library once again needed some unscheduled maintenance.
