Jurors convict Iowa man who fatally shot police officer, captured at relative's Minnesota home
Jurors have convicted a northern Iowa man of first-degree murder for shooting a police officer to death and fleeing to Minnesota, where he was captured. Kyle Lou Ricke, 43, was found guilty Thursday in Kossuth County District Court in connection with the shooting of 33-year-old Algona police officer Kevin Cram on Sept. 13. Ricke faces life in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 21.
‘Indulge’ in ice cream treats
FAIRMONT — Indulge & Co., a catchall business on Downtown Plaza in Fairmont that offers a variety of services from hair, tanning and facials to permanent makeup and retail sales, has recently added another offering: ice cream. The walk-up window, used for the store’s coffee shop, now has ice cream coming out of it on weekend evenings.
45th annual summer run around the bend
FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Community Education and Recreations 45th annual Summer Run is quickly approaching and is expecting a stacked field of runners to take part. As in years past, the races will start and end at the Fairmont High School track on July 27, It will feature four different races: a five-mile run, two-mile run, ¼-mile run/walk and a ½-mile run/walk. The races are starting at 8:30 am, 9:30 am, 10 am, 10:05 am, with registration closing 10 minutes prior to the start of each race.
Man who was arrested in Sleepy Eye for killing police office gets life in prison
(Spirit Lake, IA) -- A north central Iowa man will spend the rest of his life in prison for the fatal shooting of a police officer in Algona last September. Forty-three-year-old Kyle Ricke was found guilty of the first-degree murder of Officer Kevin Cram on Thursday. Ricke fled the area after the shooting and was arrested at a relative's home near Sleepy Eye in southern Minnesota. The mandatory sentence for first-degree murder in Iowa is life in prison without parole.

District offers summer meals
FAIRMONT — Fairmont is making sure children aren’t left hungry this summer. The Fairmont Area School District this week began offering free breakfast and lunch during to ensure families, especially those in economic struggle, have meals. The Summer Foods Program will last until July 26. The breakfast meals are served out of Fairmont Elementary School (FES) between 8:30 am and 9:00 am. The lunch meals are served between 12:00 pm and 12:30 pm.

A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life and legacy of Robert “Bob” Rempel, age 86, of Windom, will be held Thurs., July 11th at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Windom with Pastor Jon Greener officiating. Burial will be at the Mountain Lake Cemetery in Mountain Lake. The service will be livestreamed on the Evangelical Free Church’s Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Robert Lee Rempel was born September 21, 1937, to Frank and Susie (Ewert) Rempel in Mountain Lake, Minnesota and grew up in the Bingham Lake and Delft areas. In his teen years, Robert suffered from Polio. He graduated from Mountain Lake Public School and went on to attend business school for one year in Mankato.
