Choices for People a regional leader for developmental disability services
A Friday ceremony at Rolla Lions Club Park proved graduation season didn’t completely end in May. Gathered were dozens direct service professionals who achieved their Missouri Talent Pathways accreditation with Choices for People. This was the third graduation Choices for People has hosted since last year, and the largest yet. Moreover, additional ceremonies are planned until Choices for People’s entire staff has graduated, including the 30 new planned hires who’ll be joining the organization by the end of next year.
Independence Day events planned for Thursday
The annual Independence Day parade and fireworks are planned for Salem Thursday, July 4. In nearby Rolla, the Lions Club Carnival is in full swing July 3-6. • Salem Area Chamber of Commerce and City of Salem Fourth of July Parade “Let Freedom Ring” will take place at 6 p.m. in Downtown Salem. The line-up begins on Grand Street, traveling down Franklin to MacArthur Avenue, to Fourth Street.

SHERIFF INCIDENT REPORT
According to reports from the Dent County Sheriff’s Office,. • deputies responded to East Center Street June 24 for a reported wanted subject. During the investigation, a 32-year-old Salem man was arrested. The suspect was transported to the Dent County Jail where he was incarcerated on the warrant.
SMH board approves budget in June 25 special meeting
Salem Memorial Hospital Board of Directors called a special meeting for June 25, and approved the 2024-25 budget after a 12-minute discussion before moving to closed session. Present for the June 25 session were Karen Brown, Zach Moser (virtual), Wanda Tatom (virtual), Mike Swyers, Dr. Leigh Ann Price, and Frank Barnitz.
Infant Prairie Keeney
Prairie Marie Keeney, precious daughter of Ethan and Kendra Keeney of Bland, was born into the arms of angels June 29, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City. She is survived by parents, Ethan and Kendra; grandparents, Steve and Tina Keeney of Owensville, and James and Annette Kelley of Bland; great-grandparents, Clyde Zelch Sr. and Sharyn Zelch both of Rosebud; sisters, River and Sunny Keeney; and brother, Forest Keeney; plus numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.
SALEM R-80: Roof bids rejected, project re-bid
The Salem R-80 Board met Thursday for a special called open session meeting regarding the roof bids being considered for projects. I-44 crash leaves motorcyclist dead Sunday in Franklin County
ST CLAIR, Mo. — A motorcyclist from Cuba, Missouri, died Sunday afternoon in a crash along Interstate 44 in Franklin County. According to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 73-year-old Ruben Caldera was driving his motorcycle westbound on I-44 in St. Clair at about 3:50 p.m. Sunday when he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to travel off the right side of the roadway, strike a rock bluff and overturn before ejecting him.
