Phelps County firefighters work pair of fires Tuesday
A couple of fires keep firefighters in Phelps County busy. The Doolittle Rural Fire Protection says crews worked a fire in a detached garage on County Road 8500, north of Newburg, Monday. They were assisted by the Rolla Rural Fire Protection District. Crews were also called to extinguish a debris pile fire in Newburg.

BELLE — Officials in the city of Belle said Tuesday afternoon the boil advisory there had been lifted. Residents in Belle were under a boil advisory Monday due to a water main break. City officials had urged residents to check the city's website to stay updated on the progress.
SHERIFF INCIDENT REPORT
According to reports from the Dent County Sheriff’s Office:. • deputies took a report July 1 for a burglary in which firearms, camping equipment and other items were stolen. The incident occurred in the 10000 block of Highway 19 North. The victim, an 80-year-old Salem man, advised the property was broken into between June 29 and June 30. The investigation is ongoing.

Mary Johanna Jones, age 88, of Devils Elbow, Mo. died Friday, July 5, 2024, in Mercy Hospital in Springfield. She is survived by her children, Jimmie Jones, Jr. of Devil’s Elbow, Faith Dunn (Tom) of Devil’s Elbow, Dawn Cleeton (William) of Kauai, Hawaii, and Michael Jones (Michelle) of Devil’s Elbow; and eleven grandchildren, Jessica Reed (Asa), Brett Jones, Melanie Burns (Michael), Patrick Dunn, Tyler Cleeton (Hope), Kyle Cleeton, Ryan Cleeton, Dylan Cleeton (Angie), Roxanna Jones, Rachel Jones, and Jonathon Anderson; fourteen great-grandchildren, Asa, Paul, Tessa, Noah, Nevaeh, Nivek, Dominic, Bianca, Ricky, Owen, Johanna, Matt, Aidan, and Elizabeth; her sister, Shirley Nichols of Port Huron, Mich.; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.

According to reports of Troop I of the Missouri State Highway Patrol:. • Sandra D. Rowe, 63, of Salem, was arrested at 8:28 p.m. July 6 on charges of felony DWI persistent offender, driving while revoked and no insurance. Rowe was held at the Dent County Jail and later released.
Edward Eugene Parker Jr., killed in pedestrian crash near Quapaw
QUAPAW, OK, (July 08, 2024) - A 63-year-old Missouri man was tragically killed in a pedestrian accident Monday morning just outside Quapaw in Ottawa County. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Edward Eugene Parker Jr., was found at 4:09 a.m. lying in the inside lane of the westbound Will Rogers Turnpike (Interstate 44) near mile marker 325. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Carol Sue Brookshire, of Rolla, Mo., passed away Monday, July 8, 2024, at the age of 83. She was born on January 14, 1941, in Taylorville, Ill., to the late Harold Schroyer and Barbara (Check) Schroyer. Carol graduated from the Licking High School in 1959.
