A reminder for wildfire prevention by celebrating Smokey’s 80th (LISTEN)
To celebrate Smokey Bear’s 80th Birthday, the USDA Forest Service is providing a year-long celebration. The Mark Twain National Forest will have displayed artwork of the original cartoon drawings of Smokey Bear through July 12th. The event will also focus on Forest Service staff, educational content, commemorative memorabilia, and special appearances by the legendary bear.

Gary G. Aldridge, 59, of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, June 24, 2024. Gary was born on January 15, 1965, in St. Louis, Missouri, to his parents, Alfred and Hilda (Scott) Aldridge. Gary attended various schools in St. Louis and graduated from Collinsville High School before embarking on a significant 32-year career with Chrysler. His commitment and dedication to his work were just as steadfast as his loyalty to his loved ones. Upon retiring in 2013, Gary relocated to Sullivan, where he cared for his mother with unwavering dedication and love.

Patricia Ann Strothcamp was born on February 19, 1954, in Washington, Missouri, to Louis “Bud” and June Gaskill. Patty's early years were spent attending grade school at Saint Anthony's Catholic School, where she developed a foundation of faith that would guide her throughout her life. She carried the lessons learned and friendships formed there into her teenage years at Sullivan High School, graduating with the class of 1972. It was after high school that Patty's life blossomed in unexpected and wonderful ways.

Linda A. Cash-Rice, 78, of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 16, 2024 at Scenic Nursing and Rehab Center of Herculaneum. Linda Ann Pashia was born on April 7, 1946, in Saint Louis, Missouri to Ralph and Cecile Pashia. Growing up in Desoto, Missouri, Linda attended St. Rose Lima Catholic Grade School and later graduated from St. Pius Catholic High School where she established lifelong friendships. It was around this time Linda was married and blessed with two children: Tammy and William.

OPINION: Rolla City Council's proposed licensing requirement for shelters threatens critical services
The Rolla City Council is considering a new licensing requirement for shelters that, if passed, will have significant repercussions for our community.
