BELLE — Officials in the city of Belle said Tuesday afternoon the boil advisory there had been lifted. Residents in Belle were under a boil advisory Monday due to a water main break. City officials had urged residents to check the city's website to stay updated on the progress.

According to reports of Troop I of the Missouri State Highway Patrol:. • Sandra D. Rowe, 63, of Salem, was arrested at 8:28 p.m. July 6 on charges of felony DWI persistent offender, driving while revoked and no insurance. Rowe was held at the Dent County Jail and later released.
Obituary – Carol S. Brookshire
Carol Sue Brookshire, of Rolla, Mo., passed away Monday, July 8, 2024, at the age of 83. She was born on January 14, 1941, in Taylorville, Ill., to the late Harold Schroyer and Barbara (Check) Schroyer. Carol graduated from the Licking High School in 1959. On January 30, 1960, she married Fred Brookshire at the First Methodist Church in Licking, Mo.

Gidcumb Farms – family business involving multiple generations
Josh and Michelle Gidcumb established Gidcumb Farms in 2022, when Josh, a helicopter pilot, sold his helicopter spraying business and decided that he “has always liked growing stuff.” Three generations of the hardworking Gidcumb family work the land, producing fruit, vegetables and flowers, and they have eggs that are sold on site.
SHERIFF INCIDENT REPORT
According to reports from the Dent County Sheriff’s Office:. • deputies took a report July 1 for a burglary in which firearms, camping equipment and other items were stolen. The incident occurred in the 10000 block of Highway 19 North. The victim, an 80-year-old Salem man, advised the property was broken into between June 29 and June 30. The investigation is ongoing.

Independence Day is a holiday Americans reflect on their freedom–we do so very loudly. While the way Americans celebrate this important holiday may have evolved throughout the years, it’s essential to have fireworks on hand for the Fourth of July. Throughout Salem, the sky explodes with colorful sparks, the ground shakes with booms, and the streets cloud in a haze of smoke. Independence Day is an exciting summer holiday that unites all underneath an umbrella of freedom and a fire-lit sky. When shopping for fireworks, one has to think of the volume of the explosions, the array of colors, and the overall loudness. Boomtown Fireworks helped me choose four of the best fireworks for the Fourth of July.
Dent County native publishes debut novel
Laura Barnitz, originally of Lake Spring, Missouri, has written and published a fantasy novel titled The Stonebound Heir, which features the journey of two young characters who seek answers to the secrets surrounding their origins after their guardian is brutally murdered. Their friendship is tested as they navigate life in a realm where it’s difficult to tell friends and enemies apart.
National Trails Day celebrated
The National Trails Day at the historically significant Marcoot Lookout Fire Tower concluded with a dramatic twist - rain. The ground saturated with water was transformed into treacherous, muddy terrain on Saturday, June 1, 2024. Parking was limited because the grassy areas were no longer solid. There were a few gravel areas at the walk-in entrance into Mark Twain National Forest (formerly named Clark National Forest).
Prime Smallmouth Time
Anglers will argue until the end of time about when the prime time to fish for smallmouth bass occurs. I tend to agree with an old fisherman I met own the Meramec River a few decades ago. He wryly concluded that prime time was anytime you had time to go fishing.
