Oak Island home destroyed in fire potentially started by nearby electric vehicles
OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WECT) - Emergency crews responded to an active fire involving a fully engulfed house on NE 42nd Street on Tuesday, July 16. The Oak Island Fire Department arrived at 9:35 p.m. to find the home fully involved. According to town officials, two occupants smelled smoke and went outside to discover fire on the underside of the home. They were able to self-evacuate and were uninjured.

Police in North Carolina are warning locals to steer clear of female alligators during this time of year. Officials with the Sunset Beach Police Department took to Facebook to post a PSA about suspected alligator nests. “Nearly all alligators become sexually mature by the time they reach approximately 7 feet in length, although females can reach maturity at 6 feet. Wilmington Police Department assemble First Responder Kits4Kids
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department taking steps to help ease emotional trauma for children they encounter at crime scenes. The department made what is called Kits4Kids. The kits contain things like Rubik’s Cubes, crayons and miniature vehicles. In addition to helping children get through a difficult time, WPD hopes that these kits will help young children build a positive relationship with law enforcement. Officer Lynn Hartley, who works with Community Engagement, said she thinks these kits are a must-have in a First Responders tool kit.
