70th Reunion of PHS Class of 1954
Eight members of the Peotone High School Class of 1954 marked their 70th reunion this summer, a celebration filled with memories and tinged with wistfulness. The class has met for 32 reunions over the years, in restaurants, state parks, Joliet Frontier League baseball games, Twilight Cruises, a Passion Play, and quiet suppers in members’ homes. There were trips to Chicago, Peoria, Starved Rock, Shipshewana, Nebraska, and Holland, Michigan.
Cam Johnson Joins Valpo Baseball Staff as Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator
Valparaiso University head baseball coach Brian Schmack has announced the addition of assistant coach Cam Johnson, who will serve as the program’s recruiting coordinator, hitting coach, outfield coach and top assistant. In addition, Schmack has promoted Adam Brian to a full-time assistant coaching role after he served as a volunteer assistant coach in 2024.

Concepcion Arellano passed away July 12, with his loving family at his side. He was the beloved husband for over 50 years to Fidelia; loving father of Angelica (Antonio) Rincon, Irma (Ruben) Andrade, Lilia (Dion) Casas, Maria (Victor) Olivo and Marcos Arellano; proud grandfather of Mona, Zynthia, Guero, Mykael, Anjel, Zaraveth, Vivian, Samantha, Giselle, Michelle, Diego, Makayla, Jaszlyn, Sydelle, Julian, Mavery and Neymar; great grandfather of Santino, Sophie, Ezra and Madeline. Dear brother of Manuel, Alejandro, Maria, Virginia, Teresa, Juan, Jesus, Mercedes, Isabel, Consuelo and Sara. Jorge will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and friends. He worked at Mt. Carmel Cemetery for over 30 years before his retirement in 2020.
Jacobsen continues strong Grant Park stand with Beethoven
Eric Jacobsen is building on the strong impression he made last week as the conductor continues leading the Grant Park Orchestra at Millennium Park. Jacobsen’s first program featured all 20th-century works. On Wednesday he turned his attention to 19th-century repertoire as well as a world premiere, demonstrating assured professionalism and artistic acumen across genres.

Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)—Twenty-five properties were sold in Park Forest in July as of this writing. Home sales averaged $155,720, with a median price of $160,000. The highest sale price was $250,000 for a 2500 sq. ft. home on Lee Street. One house in foreclosure sold for $72,000. Two homes shared the minimum price for properties sold at $62,000, one on Western Avenue and the other on Minocqua Street.

A free training course in northwest Indiana is aiming to educate and empower others to recognize the warning signs of suicide. Cathy Cinko knows it’s a topic not many people want to talk about openly as they face mental health struggles. She’s the lead clinical therapist at Franciscan Health and is leading and teaching a free course on suicide prevention at the hospital in Dyer, Indiana.
