Former Social Worker in Colfax Sent to Prison in Sextortion Case
COLFAX - A former social worker in Colfax has been sent to prison for extorting a woman for sex in exchange for helping get her children back. Robert Tarver was found guilty in April during his bench trial in Whitman County Superior Court. Judge George fearing convicted Tarver of felony receiving unlawful compensation with sexual motivation and perjury. He was found not guilty of felony extortion.
Heat Causes 3 Buckles in US195 Near Rosalia
ROSALIA - Hot temperatures caused three buckles on U.S. Highway 195 near Rosalia on Tuesday. All the ruptures occurred near the rest stop in North Whitman County. Washington State Department of Transportation crews completely repaired two of the buckles on Tuesday. Work to fully repair the worst buckle will wrap up when the weather cools down. There are currently no traffic delays on the highway. A WSDOT employee will drive that section of highway hourly during the day to monitor for more buckling during this heatwave. This is one of the oldest and thinnest sections of poured concrete on US195.
Cheney Reservoir Levels Low
Water levels at the Cheney Reservoir are lower. The National Weather Service says the reservoir is at its lowest level since 2013. Officials say water levels are six feet below the normal conservation level, and drought conditions have been a factor.

Golfing for a cause at Peter Zornes Memorial
COLFAX - The 16th annual Peter Zornes Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at the Colfax Golf Course this Saturday, July 13, starting at 10 a.m. Golfers of all experience levels are welcome to participate in the 18-hole scramble. Following the tournament, there will be a dinner announcing the winners and awarding prizes, along with a silent auction. Families are encouraged to come and those not wishing to play golf can go to the dinner for a donation to the Peter A Zornes Memorial Neuroscience Scholarship.
'Excessive heat warning' not likely to harm Northwest wheat crop

ROSALIA, Wash.-How hot has it been the past week? Hot enough to buckle some stretches of road in Washington, according to the Department of Transportation. A stretch of US 195 just south of Rosalia at the Horn School Rest Area buckled due to the extreme heat this week and maintenance crews are working to repair it before the heat causes more damage.
Firefighters responding to brush fire at westbound I-90 near Cheney
CHENEY, Wash. — Spokane County Fire District 3 is responding to a wildfire that is burning at westbound I-90 near Cheney. The fire is burning at Milepost 263 on Eastbound I-90. The fire is three acres in size and is burning in grass and timber. Forward progression has stopped.
