A delay imminent to debut of Jer’Zhan Newton with the Washington Commanders
It was a great 2024 NFL Draft for the Illinois football team, as multiple players went off the board. The highest-drafted player for the Illini was former defensive lineman, Jer’Zhan Newton. He was an All-American in Champaign, and despite being slightly undersized at 6-foot-2, 304 pounds, Newton commanded a ton of attention with his tenacious play on the field.
Police Arrest Chicago Man for Alleged Theft Incident at Champaign Walgreens
The suspected theft at a Walgreens in Champaign’s Campustown led to the Tuesday arrest of a guy from Chicago. The 29-year-old Geovontae Galloway was taken into custody at 12:36 p.m. by officers from the University of Illinois Police who had responded to a report of stealing at the Walgreens on East Green Street.

CHAMPAIGN — It's 8:30 p.m. over at the Ubben Basketball Complex and junior guard Kylan Boswell has just clocked out of his third workout of the day. Sweat drips down his remade frame as he steps off the court with assistant coach Geoff Alexander. Everywhere Boswell looks, he sees support but also accountability. He wanted that and knew he needed it after a sophomore season at Arizona that started feverishly (12 points, 8 rebounds & 5 assists at No. 2 Duke in mid-November), but then turned into an up-and-down ride before flaming out in postseason play (4 points or less in four of five games).
Former Illini Quincy Guerrier gets first taste of Summer League Action
Former Illini Quincy Guerrier was finally able to contribute in the 2024 NBA Summer League. Guerrier is on the Toronto Raptors, however, did not see the floor during the first two games. In the past week, however, he did get in the game for some spot minutes. During his first game, Guerrier logged six minutes of action. He did not score, however, grabbed two rebounds, one assist, and one steal. In Friday night’s bout, the former Illinois basketball forward logged 17 minutes.
