Cambridge Mayor Steve Rideout on Search for City Manager
The Cambridge City Council conducted interviews on July 15 for the vacant city manager position. The closed session was held at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay and was, in the words of Mayor Steve Rideout, “an interesting meeting.” This was necessitated by the departure in May of City Manager Tom Carroll, whose position has been held on a temporary basis by David Deutsch.
Woman Burned In RV Fire Flown To Hospital In St. Mary's County
Shortly after 8 a.m. on July 15, first responders were called to the 23200 block of Point Lookout Road in Leonardtown, when a fire inside the vehicle was reported. According to the Maryland Fire Marshal, at the time the blaze broke out, the woman was inside the RV with two children.

Seniors, Check Out Farmers Market Program
This year’s Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program distribution event is set at the Garvey Senior Activity Center on Tuesday, July 23, from 8:30 to 11am. Eligible senior participants will receive a total of $50 on an electronic benefits (debit) card equipped with a QR code. These cards can be used in any dollar increment up to $50 at participating vendors. A limited number of cards will be available and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. All funds must be redeemed by November 30, 2024.

Talbot County Garden Club hosted a lemonade social at Scotts United Methodist Church in Trappe on June 16 to celebrate the success of the 2024 Talbot County Tour of the Maryland House & Garden Pilgrimage. Dedicated to the restoration and preservation of historic properties, the May 11 Tour drew more than 2,000 “pilgrims” to seven outstanding private properties. Tour proceeds from ticket sales and sponsorships – greatly amplified by service providers’ discounts and donations – will cover major infrastructure projects at two historic churches in Trappe: Scotts and St. Paul’s Episcopal on Main Street and brick ruins from the related old White Marsh Church on Almshouse Road and Route 50.

Vivian Lee Messner, 68, of Colonial Beach passed away peacefully at her brother’s home in Timonium, MD on June 23, 2024, after bravely battling pancreatic cancer. Born in Huntington, WV on August 25, 1955, she graduated from Mynderse Academy in Seneca Falls, NY in 1973 and from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a BS in accounting in 1977. She served as an information technology specialist for a major defense contractor and later for Geico, where she worked for over 20 years, retiring in 2014.
