ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Bryan Pieschel served as a U.S. Army Medic from 2004–2009. His unit was assigned to Iraq, where the battalion saw significant action in combat. After being medically retired from the Army, Bryan returned to St. Louis, where he enjoyed a career as an elite volleyball coach. But found a new purpose when he became involved with Dogs for Our Brave as a volunteer, and today, is the first veteran hired full time as the Director of Veteran Services. Today, we salute Bryan Pieschel with FOX 2’s Proud to Serve award.

Dogs For Our Brave provides professionally trained service dogs at no cost to veterans who have suffered debilitating injury or illness while in service to our country. The organization is based in St. Louis but supports veterans across the country. Click here to learn more or to donate to Dogs For Our Brave.

Bryan was nominated by another veteran, who told us:

Bryan is an Army Veteran who served as a Combat Medic. He was medically retired and is now the first Director of Veteran Services for Dogs for our Brave. Bryan uses his first hand knowledge of the physical and psychological impacts war has on our Nations Veterans and not only works with them to provide them a Service Dog but also to provide them resources for a better life.

Bryan receives $500 from Brown & Brown Law Firm and FOX 2’s Proud to Serve Award. If you would like to nominate a 1st responder, military or veteran, click here.
