ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - All-Star Break is around the corner and the St. Louis Cardinals will look to finish the first half of the season strong.

After starting the season on somewhat of a slow foot, which saw the Cardinals have a 15-24 record to begin the season, a terrific two month plus stretch by the Cardinals has seen them go 33-20 since May 12, which is the tied for the second-best win total in that stretch alongside the Philadelphia Phillies and Cleveland Guardians.

"It was a bad start and what has happened since then and the way they have clawed their way back, I know the team is looking forward to the All-Star break, but I don't think they will take their foot off the pedal until we get there Sunday," said Voice of the Cardinals John Rooney on Total Information A.M. Friday.

The Cardinals still have four games left, with the club hosting the Chicago Cubs at Busch Stadium for the weekend. The Cubs have not been world beaters, having gone 27-37 since May 1st, which is the fifth-worst win total in baseball. But the Cubs have started July on the right foot, going 6-3, and recently sweeping the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards.

Rooney says from watching the Cardinals compete and play well over the last two plus months, they are showing a fight and a will to comeback, even while they are not at their best.

"Even when they had trouble stopping the Royals from scoring, the Cardinals offense had some answers and just didn't have enough to get a split in the doubleheader," said Rooney. "But going against the Cubs and the way they have played some close games in Chicago, I'm really looking forward to the weekend and I'm looking forward to the All-Star Break.""
