ST. LOUIS – The You Paid For It Team getting action for a resident trying to keep the City of St. Louis from Demolishing her house.

The City slapped a condemned sign on it, even though the Coby Williams and her partner say they planned to renovate the house. They say it wasn’t in that bad a shape .

Williams says they got no answers to their calls to officials for help.

After Coby Williams called FOX 2 about the house on Bacon Street in North St Louis, we called Conner Kerrigan the spokesman for the St Louis Mayor’s Office. He sent this statement:

“On May 2nd, 2024, the city of St. Louis building division permits section sent a letter to the owner of the property alerting them that the property was condemned due to structural damage caused by a fire.”

Williams says there was a change after we got on the case.

”Since the email to Conner Kerrigan we got a letter from the building commissioner saying our building had been taken off the demolition list and we would just have to get an occupancy permit after all the inspections are done before you let somebody move in.”

The mayor’s office sent another statement, reading:

“However, the building division is willing to work with the new owner of the property and fully expects the owner to follow through with garnering the property permits to restore the building to it’s habitable state.”

Williams is feeling a lot better now. “I’ve been sending emails to the mayor. I had sent an email and didn’t get a response until you called them.”

Her partner, Deon Robinson, says they have big plans for the house.

“My feeling is I’m glad we kept it cause I could make it look better,” he said. “It will look like a new building when we done with it. Give us a little time before the end of this year, you will see a chance.”

Williams says there are a lot of reasons to save this house.

“Because this is the neighborhood where I went to school, I wanted to keep it just in case I have grown children.”

She’s glad she called You Paid For It. ”Now you gets the ball rolling. Every time I see you on TV, whoever calls you, they get positive results.”
