St. Louis mourns loss of beloved radio personality Tammie Holland

ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis community is mourning the loss of veteran media personality Tammie Holland following her long battle with cancer.

Holland, an Emmy-nominated St. Louis media veteran, was the host of “This Week with Tammie Holland,” and a morning show personality on Foxy 106.9 FM. Tammie’s radio contributions are cataloged in a national historic collection, highlighting the achievements of African American women in broadcasting.

In the summer of 2021, Holland was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. She died over the weekend at the age of 53.

“Tammie was an amazing person…She, obviously, was dealing with cancer herself, and at the same time, she was involved in fundraisers, she was helping other people who was dealing with things like cancer themselves,” Don Williams, aka DJ Wrekk 1, program director for Foxy 106.9 FM, said.

“I’m like, ‘Wow, that’s a strong lady right there.’ Tammie is going to be remembered for not only being funny, but she was also there for the community even when she was going through her cancer treatment.”

On Monday, the radio station opened up its airwaves so listeners could their share favorite memories and stories about Holland .

“Just seeing these last few days and Tammie on this journey these last few years, I just know she’ll be remembered as a beautiful spirit that touched so many,” Tonee Roper, on-air personality at Foxy 106.9 FM, said. “And her charity work on air, sharing her journey, inspiring all through hard times. We will all remember that.”

Throughout Holland’s career, her co-workers said she has always believed in using her platform to advocate for others, especially children and the disadvantaged. In 2015, Tammie joined citizens who rallied for justice after a young girl was shot and killed while doing her homework.

In September 2021, Holland received the Key to the City from St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones. That same month, the Missouri House of Representatives declared September 22 as Tammie Holland Day.

“Her spirit will be remembered for the fighter that she was, the beautiful person she was, and how she went out of her way to help the community,” Kiki The First Lady, on-air personality at Foxy 106.9 FM, said.
