The St. Louis Cardinals will have a defensive hole to fill after an injury to their centerfielder on Saturday.

It was announced on Sunday that the Cardinals have placed outfielder Michael Siani on the 10-day injured list due to a right oblique strain. Siani was removed from the game on Saturday against the Chicago Cubs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Manager Oli Marmol appeared on KMOX , a local sports radio in St. Louis, and discussed the severity of the injury to Siani.

"It looks like it's something that is going to sideline him for a little bit. It's definitely an oblique and we know how those go. It could be several weeks before we see him back."

Heading into Sunday's contest, Siani was fourth among all players in Major League Baseball with 15 outs above average. He is second among all centerfielders, only trailing Washington Nationals Jacob Young . His defense will be missed in the Cardinals outfield. Marmol also stated that Laars Nootbaar will see the most time at the centerfield position of those already on the active roster.

The team recalled Victor Scott II to rejoin the team after the Siani injury. He will return to the team for the first time since serving as the 27th man on June 20th. He was optioned on April 21st to Memphis after hitting 0.85/.138/.136 in his first attempt at the Majors. However, Scott has been hitting the ball quite well in Triple-A as of late and has a .933 OPS over his past ten games.

The Cardinals will look for the series split with the Chicago Cubs in Sunday's finale. The first pitch is at 7:10 PM EST and can be found on ESPN as the game will be nationally televised for Sunday Night Baseball.
