It's Time to Give Jordan Walker Another Shot with the Cardinals

The St. Louis Cardinals are coming off a disappointing series loss against the Chicago Cubs over the weekend. And let's be honest, if it wasn't for some error made by the Cubs in Saturday's matchup the team would have been swept.

As they transition their attention to the Tampa Bay Rays after a quick one game makeup against the New York Mets, they will be doing so without outfielder Michael Siani who was placed on the 10-day injured list over the weekend with a right oblique strain. The Cardinals called up Victor Scott II for his second stint in the majors for the defensive help and hopefully some better offensive production compared to the last time he was up.

However, the Cardinals are battling for a playoff spot, and the power off the bench may come in handy than a speedster defensive replacement. Or why not both? With the struggling play of Nolan Gorman , the Cardinals infielder has played his way out of a spot in the batting order and has even seen his pinch hit spots dwindle over the past few opportunities. So as we enter the middle of August, Why not make a change?

Nolan Gorman still possesses options to head back to Triple-A Memphis and like a few other top prospects in the system went back down and got right. There is still time to get this accomplished and bring him back for a hopeful run into the postseason. While the team does that, a perfect player to call up in his place is Jordan Walker .

Walker has shown that his power has returned in Triple-A Memphis since his demotion from St. Louis in late April. Over the weekend, Walker hit the longest home run of his professional baseball career as he sent one 446 feet off a building window in Durham, North Carolina.

In Walker's last ten games with Triple-A Memphis, he has shown huge progress since struggling at the Major League level earlier in the year. He has hit .357/.417..690 with a 1.107 OPS. His 90th percentile exit velocity has been at 107 MPH over that span (league average is 104).

Walker's defense has much improved while down in the minors as well. Something that was a concern since making the transition to the outfield just a few seasons ago.

The fact that Walker was not even considered to be in trade talks over this past MLB Trade Deadline shows that the St. Louis Cardinals front office believes there is still a spot for him on this roster as it is currently constructed. So why wait? If the bat of Walker is hot and the necessary adjustments have been made, let's see what he's got back in the big leagues.
