An all-Chickasaw County semifinals matchup could be brewing at the Class 2A State Baseball Tournament in Carroll. Search Warrants Lead to Drug Arrests in Fayette County
On July 19th, 2024, at approximately 8:00 AM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office conducted a narcotic search warrant at 710 Mill St. in Clermont. As a result of the warrant Kobe Joseph Detra, 20 of Clermont was arrested and charged with Possession of controlled substance Marijuana 1st offense, Possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of child endangerment. Detra was transported to the Fayette County Jail where he awaited his initial appearance and was later released on an unsecured appearance bond. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol.
“The Doctor” print donated to VMH by Schaller family from former Waukon artist Les PurDue
Veterans Memorial Hospital receives artwork donation ... The Schaller family of Waukon recently donated this painting to Veterans Memorial Hospital, according to the wishes of the artist, Les PurDue, formerly of Waukon. PurDue’s replica is of the famous, original 1891 painting of “The Doctor” in Great Britain, by artist, Luke Fildes. The painting has been used to portray the values of the ideal physician and the importance of the relationship between physician and patient, showing the physician’s professional and personal commitment. Pictured above, left to right, is Meg Schaller with her son, Dave Schaller, who had the painting reframed. PurDue’s replica of “The Doctor” is currently on display in the Meditation and Healing Center inside the main entrance to Veterans Memorial Hospital, for anyone who would like to view it in person. New Hampton scores nine runs in sixth inning to advance via mercy rule
New Hampton flipped the script from a tight, low-scoring affair to a mercy rule finish, beating Aplington-Parkersburg 11-1 in six innings. The Chickasaws scored two runs in the first inning, and after the Falcons cut the lead to one run in the top of the sixth, New Hampton responded with nine runs in the bottom of the inning to end Aplington-Parkersburg's first state baseball tournament in program history via mercy rule.

Oelwein couple seriously injured when three-wheeled motorcycle hit by car head-on
POSTVILLE, Iowa — An Oelwein couple is hospitalized after the three-wheeled motorbike they were riding was hit head-on by a car. It happened around 4:15pm Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Highways 18 and 52 west of Postville. The Alllamakee County Sheriff's Office says 31-yaer-old Mitchell Meyer of Dorchester swerved out of his lane to avoid a vehicle that had stopped to make a turn. Cougars Win Opener
The Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougars rolled to a 6-2 win over the Wilton Beavers in the 2A State Baseball Tournament. Wilton took an early lead when they scored 1 run in the top of the 2nd inning. The Cougars took advantage of a bases loaded with no outs situation in the bottom of the third to score three runs. They added three more in the bottom of the 4th innings to take a 6-1 lead. Wilton added one run in the top of the 6th, but Jamison Howard shut down the Beavers for the final three innings. Rhys Land took the win on the hill for the Cougars. They will play the winner of New Hampton vs Aplington Parkersburg on Thursday at 7pm. We’ll have coverage of that game right here on 95.1 The Bull.
Chickasaws Walk it Off
Carroll- The New Hampton Chickasaws exploded for an 9 run 6th inning to close the door on the Aplington-Parkersburg Falcons in the opening round of the 2A state baseball tournament. New Hampton took an early 2-0 lead after the first inning, but struggled with runners in scoring position. That is, until the sixth inning. The Falcons were able to scratch across a run in the top half of the frame when when Gabe Jacobsen singled home a run. But the Chickasaws were unfazed and came back with a massive offensive effort. New Hampton was lead by Kael Meyers who went 4 for 5 with four singles and three RBIs.

Blood is in special demand during the summer; Next blood drive in Waukon is set for August 5
The next LifeServe Blood Center blood drive will be held Monday, August 5, from 12-5 p.m., at the First Baptist Church located in south Waukon. Blood drives are held the first Monday of each month in Waukon, to allow for more donors to give. The LifeServe Blood Center supplies Veterans Memorial Hospital with its blood and blood products.

Volunteers needed to help with Waukon Corn Days meal for annual celebration August 2-3 in conjunction with Crazy Days
The Waukon Chamber of Commerce is seeking volunteers to assist with the serving of the meal associated with the annual Waukon Corn Days celebration scheduled for August 2-3 this year. The meal portion of the event is scheduled for Friday, August 2 from 4-8 p.m., and volunteers are being sought to help with serving the meal or handing out drinks during any of a trio of hour-and-a-half time-slot shifts of approximately 3:45-5:15 p.m., 5:10-6:45 p.m. or 6:40-8:10 p.m., with volunteers also needed for a clean-up shift following the street dance, from 11:15-11:45 p.m.
