ACC commissioner Jim Phillips pledged the day-to-day operations remain business as usual while also insisting the league will aggressively fight the lawsuits from the two schools over withdrawal penalties and the grant of media rights deal that runs through 2036. The ACC previously filed its own countersuit against the schools. "I can state that we will fight to protect the ACC and our members for as long as it...

Jim Phillips: ACC will continue to 'fight' against 'disruptive' lawsuits from Florida State, Clemson
Much has changed in the landscape of college athletics since Jim Phillips became the commissioner of the Atlantic Coast Conference four years ago. Among those shifts and developments have been the introduction of NIL, allowing college athletes to earn money from their name, image and likeness. It’s now legal to gamble on sports in 38 states, including North Carolina, where the ACC was formed 71 years ago and still hosts its headquarters today. And conference realignment — driven by television revenue from football — have made teams look for greener pastures. Since Texas and Oklahoma accepted invitations to join the Southeastern Conference in July 2021, dozens of schools have changed athletic conferences and the Pac-12 no longer exists. The ACC took in two Pac-12 refugees — Cal and Stanford, along with Southern Methodist University — to expand the league to 17 football-playing members in a conference footprint that now stretches from coast to coast.
ACC Commissioner Vows Lengthy Court Fight If Necessary Against Clemson, Florida State
Jim Phillips took a hardline stance at the conference's media days in Charlotte. Much of the spotlight this college football offseason has been on the SEC and Big Ten's respective expansions, but the ACC is changing as well. This year, California, SMU and Stanford will enter the fold. The three...

Friedlander: No more Mr. Nice Guy ... it's about time Jim Phillips took the gloves off and started swinging
CHARLOTTE, NC – The battle lines were drawn even before Florida State filed suit against the ACC and its restrictive media grant of rights last December. The school’s Board of Trustees fired the first salvo in the ACC’s battle for survival by airing its financial grievances against the conference in an open meeting around this time last year. And Clemson has since picked up on the narrative and joined the fray by initiating legal action of its own.

ACC commissioner Jim Phillips vows to 'protect' league amid Clemson, Florida State lawsuits
The Atlantic Coast Conference's litigation with Clemson and Florida State has taken its toll on commissioner Jim Phillips. So much so, Phillips presented a more forceful tone during his commissioner's forum at the ACC Football Kickoff on Monday. He called the respective lawsuits "extremely damaging, disruptive and incredibly harmful" to the conference and stated each member school "willingly" signed the grant-of-rights agreements and "eagerly" agreed to the league's current TV contract. ...
